Purpose of the Role
The Production Officer plays a vital role in supporting all aspects of farm production and compliance. The position ensures accurate data management adherence to quality and regulatory standards and seamless coordination across teams involved in crop management compliance water use equipment maintenance and (where applicable) cold-room operations and pollination activities.
Key Performance Outputs
Crop Management
Assist with crop census activities block counts and summary reports
Ensure monthly Agronomy Drip & Drain and SOP samples are collected and documented
Manage crop protection summaries and spray records
Print and maintain fertigation checklists and mixing programmes
Compliance & Quality Systems
Maintain and update QMS documentation (quarterly and annual)
Coordinate on-site records for Global GAP and SIZA compliance including:Client specifications & audit certificates Health & safety risk assessments Internal audits & HACCP plansMSDS for chemicals and fertilisers Ethical worker welfare and environmental records
Support waste pollution housing and environmental compliance
Facilitate risk assessments safety meetings and employee compliance queries
Water Equipment & Housing Maintenance
Capture borehole water meter readings and update SIZA KPI records
Ensure equipment maintenance templates and checklists are current
Maintain accurate housing maintenance records job cards and census data
General Production Support
Maintain accurate weather and rainfall records
Manage PPE ordering stock levels and documentation
Ensure signage and notice boards comply with required standards
Support production and QC protocols during the season
Assist the Production Manager with daily operational data management
Cold-Room Operations (If Applicable)
Supervise fruit quality harvesting logistics and compliance
Maintain accurate stock delivery and dispatch records
Implement FIFO inventory control
Oversee cold-room health safety maintenance and repairs
Manage protective clothing laundry and raw stock monitoring on NetSuite
Pollination & Bee Management (If Applicable)
Maintain flower count records
Update bee stand maps and hive placement
Track and document hive movements
Requirements
What You Bring:
A Senior Certificate (Grade 12 / Matric) with a relevant Diploma or Degree in Business Administration Food Science Food Safety or a related field
Minimum 3 years experience in agricultural production compliance or a similar regulated environment
Strong computer literacy with proven ability to work in MS Excel Word and PowerPoint for data management and reporting
Working knowledge of Global GAP and SIZA (social and environmental compliance) requirements
Sound understanding of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and Occupational Health & Safety Act
Advantageous knowledge of fertigation crop protection pollination and agronomy sampling
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage confidently across teams
Strong planning organisational and data management skills with a high level of attention to detail
Ability to analyse reports maintain accurate records and ensure audit-ready compliance systems
A results-driven detail-oriented approach with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships and support team success
