Job Title: E4 Engineer Mechanical (Generation Stations)
Location: Campbell River BC - on site 5 days per week
Contract Duration: 12 months
Max INC Rate: $96.11/
Max T4 Rate: $79.43/

General Description

The E4 Engineer is a Professional Engineer or Professional Geoscientist who applies advanced engineering knowledge to deliver engineering estimating planning drafting commissioning and quality management services for medium-complexity generation station projects and operations.

This role ensures projects are completed safely with quality on schedule and within budget while adhering to regulatory professional practice and BC Hydro standards.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Leadership

• Develop safe and effective engineering solutions using sound technical judgment and initiative.

• Perform engineering design drafting analysis and interpretation of specifications for mechanical systems in generation stations.

• Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering issues through independent studies and technical evaluations.

• Recommend safe engineering designs and improvements to support successful project delivery and station operations.

Mechanical Drafting & Design (Generation Stations)

• Draft and revise engineering drawings related to station mechanical systems using Autodesk and other CADD applications.

• Produce 2D and 3D models and parametric designs.

• Create customized drawings for non-standard engineering and design projects.

• Support drawings for site preparation facility construction equipment assemblies components and infrastructure installations.

• Perform work in accordance with BC Hydro CADD standards and drawing records management systems.

• Perform supporting engineering calculations as required.

Commissioning & Field Support

• Support commissioning of large gates and hoist systems including precision alignment.

• Apply best industry practices for heavy mechanical system commissioning.

• Demonstrate sound judgment to avoid inadvertent impacts on adjacent equipment during testing activities.

• Commission and troubleshoot instrumentation systems for wire rope hoists.

• Provide field engineering support during installation testing and startup phases.

Project & Operations Support

• Assist project and operations management in achieving safety cost quality and schedule objectives.

• Propose changes to plans and cost estimates where appropriate.

• Review contractor progress and recommend payment for completed work.

• Prepare progress reports and coordinate work schedules.

• Contribute to development and improvement of technical standards and engineering practices.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to other engineering professionals.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum eight (8) years of relevant engineering experience.

• Registered Professional Engineer (.) or Professional Geoscientist (.) with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or eligible for registration.

• Must hold a valid Permit to Practice (P2P) prior to commencement (sole practitioner or through firm).

• Must maintain a valid OFA Level 1 certification for the duration of employment.

• Experience drafting mechanical systems for generation stations.

• Extensive experience using Autodesk and other CADD applications.

• Familiarity with CAD systems drawing standards and digital drawing management systems.

• Ability to use industry-standard engineering design and analysis software.

• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint).

• Intermediate professional English communication skills (written and spoken).

• Familiarity with best industry practices for commissioning large mechanical systems.

Preferred / Asset Qualifications

• Structured heavy industry commissioning experience.

• Experience working in utility or power generation environments.

• Completion of or progress toward BC Hydro Electrical System introductory course.

• Experience with digital sign and seal technology (Notarius subscription may be required).

Professional Practice Requirements

• Registrants will work under BC Hydros Professional Practice Management Plan (Quality Management Pillar).

• The engineer must apply their own or their firms Permit to Practice number to all sealed work.

• All project documentation produced during the contract will be retained by BC Hydro to satisfy EGBC bylaws.

Work Assignment Requirements (Mandatory)

• Valid OFA Level 1 certification (must maintain throughout assignment).

• . registration and active Permit to Practice.

• Proven commissioning experience with large gates and hoist systems (including precision alignment).

• Strong technical judgment regarding system testing risks and mitigation.

• Experience commissioning and troubleshooting wire rope hoist instrumentation systems.
