Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Manager the Pharmacy Operations Coordinator plans and organizes the pharmacy department to ensure proper procurement storage preparation distribution use and waste of medications in conformance with legal regulations and hospital conjunction with other members of the pharmacy leadership and the medical and nursing staff the Pharmacy Operations Coordinate participates in the development of programs policies and procedures that promote the delivery of the safe and effective use of medications and other quality pharmaceutical services.

The Pharmacy Operations Coordinator serves as the primary operational execution leader responsible for translating departmental strategy into daily practice with direct responsibility for day-to-day workflow oversight staff supervision operational compliance and performance monitoring. The Pharmacy Operations Coordinator ensures consistent operational performance staff accountability and adherence to pharmacy procedures while escalating strategic and system-level issues to the Pharmacy Manager.


Qualifications

Job Qualifications

Education:

BS and/or PharmD from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Residency experience preferred.

License:

Current unrestricted pharmacy licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Experience:

5-7 yearsof relevant pharmacy experience.

Essential Job Functions

Pharmacy Operations Coordination:

  • Coordinates pharmacy operational workflows and distribution processesin coordination with the Pharmacy Technician Coordinator.

  • Participates in developingmaintaining and promotingoperational policies procedures and standards.

  • Leadsoperational improvement initiatives as assigned.

  • Maintainsthe schedule for the department to ensure proper staffing to meet the demand of the hospital and patients in coordination with the Pharmacy Technician Coordinator.

  • Overseesandensuresinventory control by working with inventory specialist technicians.

  • Serves aspharmacyoperational liaison with nursing facilities supply chain and support services

  • Serves as a key escalation point for operational issues requiring leadership intervention.

Staff Supervision & Performance Management

  • Provides direct supervision coaching and mentoring to pharmacists technicians interns and support staff.

  • Develops implements and coordinates orientation initial training and continuous training programs for new and existing staff.

  • Promotes professional development of self and staff through in-service education or outside programs.

  • Assistswith performance evaluations by sharing feedback and observations on staff with pharmacy leadership providing insight into the performance of pharmacists technicians interns and support staff.

  • Provides assistancewith timekeeping processes ensuringaccuraterecording and reporting of staff hours.

Regulatory and Operational Compliance & Quality Support

  • Monitors andensures compliance with pharmacy policies controlled substance procedures inventory controls and documentation standards.

  • Assistspharmacy leadership and Medication Safety & Informatics Pharmacist withfollow-up on medication safety events and operational deviations.

  • Supports controlled substance oversight inventory controls and audit readiness.

  • Coordinates operational inspections documentation and follow-up activities.

  • Collectsandanalyzesoperational data toidentifytrends and improvement opportunities.

Departmental Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates professionalism by adhering to departmental policies meeting training requirements andmaintainingattendance and cleanliness standards.

  • Exhibits strong organizational time management and flexibility skills proactively taking on responsibilities and adapting constructively to changes oradditionalduties.

  • Provides leadership coverage during the absence of the Pharmacy Manager as delegated.

Typical hospital pharmacy environment.Works underconstant timedeadlines.Occasionally exposed to possible carcinogenic mutagenic and sensitizing substances as wellas toother hazardous chemicals typically found in a contemporary pharmacy setting.

Moderate amount of stress in completing work assignments meeting deadlines and interacting with other healthcare professionals.
