Position Summary:
The City of Independences Facilities Services Department is looking for a part-time Trades Craftsman 1. The part-time Trades Craftsman 1 will play a key role in the daily operations and mission of the Citys Facilities Services Department as well as the overall mission of the Citys government. Additionally the Trades Craftsman 1 role assists the Trades Craftsman 2 in providing maintenance to all City buildings/properties including general repairs and installations in multiple trades to include: carpentry masonry drywall and painting plumbing electrical and HVAC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform installation and maintenance of HVAC systems.
- Perform electrical maintenance and installation of receptacles switches boilers duct work filters pulleys bearings etc.
- Update and maintain plumbing repairs and maintenance of toilets pumps faucets supply lines soldering and irrigations systems.
- Painting outside of buildings and offices.
- Painting inside of buildings and offices.
- Perform carpeting installations and repairs.
- Install concrete if needed; perform floor leveling.
- Conduct repairs to gutters and roofs.
- Perform general building maintenance.
- Install emergencies and safety equipment.
- Answer technical questions.
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance on City equipment; and
- Performs any other functions and/or responsibilities assigned by the Director.

Requirements:
Experience:
- A minimum of two-years (2) of work-related experience in mechanical electrical electronics plumbing building construction HVAC radio TV phone and other utility related applications design maintenance and repair preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior supervisory or lead role experience.
Education:
- Either a High School Diploma or GED is required.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid State of Ohio Drivers License in good standing is required for operation of City owned vehicles.
- Knowledge of Department goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of Department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of City Services.
- Knowledge of City geography.
- Knowledge of safety procedures.
- Knowledge of equipment materials and supplies utilized in City services/maintenance.
- Knowledge of landscape and ground maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of road and storm sewer maintenance requirements.
- Knowledge of rough carpentry techniques and applications.
- Knowledge of equipment materials methods practices and tools
- Knowledge of application of finishing materials e.g. paint varnish lacquer stain etc.
Physical Demands:
- The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to bend stoop walk climb stairs or ladders and push or lift light weight (5-10 pounds).
- Somewhat frequently work in awkward or confined positions and lift or push moderate weight (15-20 pounds).
- Occasional lifting or pushing of heavy weight (20 pounds).
- Must be able to work in various environments/spaces including but not limited to exposure to cleaning chemicals dust and outdoor weather conditions throughout various seasons in accordance with Ohio weather conditions.
Salary Information:
- The starting pay rate will be determined by the candidates experience education and other applicable factors.
- This complete pay range for this non-exempt role is $17.60/hour (minimum) - $45.00/hour (maximum) in accordance with a Level 5 Non-Exempt role.
