Job Summary

SUMMARY

Northline Seafoods is a seafood processing company looking for an experienced and motivated Factory Maintenance Lead. Primary responsibilities of this position will be the safe and efficient maintenance operation and installation of all barge-related equipment. This is a year-round full-time position based in Bellingham WA with seasonal deployment to Bristol Bay AK during the salmon processing season (70 days).

During the off-season (approximately September through May) this role will be based in Bellingham while the vessel is docked. From June through August the Electrical Lead will work aboard a stationary floating processing facility anchored near Dillingham Alaska supporting operations during the Bristol Bay salmon season.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Work collaboratively with a team of electrical IT refrigeration and maintenance staff to ensure the barge is operating efficiently to maximize production.
  • Under the direction of the Chief Engineer and in conjunction with an opposite shift maintenance lead and two maintenance staff perform predictive preventive and corrective maintenance on all barge systems including power generation refrigeration plant electrical fuel HVAC pneumatics hydraulics pumps motors and controls reverse osmosis emergency and deck equipment.
  • Fabricate equipment through the cutting forming welding gluing and assembly of mild steel stainless steel aluminum and PVC.
  • Complete required safety trainings with an emphasis on OSHA and Coast Guard regulations.
  • Lead the maintenance team emphasizing safety and a zero-accident tolerance mentality.
  • Maintain the barge and engine room areas in a clean and orderly fashion knowing that the barge can be inspected by state and federal agencies with or without advance notice.
  • All other duties as assigned.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous supervisory experience leading a team of maintenance technicians is preferred.
  • Previous experience working aboard a processing ship/barge is a definite plus.
  • Strong knowledge of barge systems including but not limited to power generation refrigeration plant electrical fuel HVAC pneumatics hydraulics pumps motors and controls reverse osmosis emergency and deck equipment.
  • Previous experience fabricating installing and welding (MIG TIG and MMA) is highly preferred.
  • Ability to train staff in safety protocols with particular emphasis on OSHA and Coast Guard regulations.
  • Clearly communicate both verbally and in writing with the maintenance staff and entire engineering group.
  • Ability to solve problems and make clear rational decisions in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work 12 hour days 7 days per week over a 70 day season.

The Factory Maintenance Lead works aboard a stationary floating processing facility anchored near Dillingham AK during the peak salmon season with off-season responsibilities based in Bellingham Washington while the barge is docked. This role supports the safe and reliable operation of electrical and processing systems through predictive preventive and corrective maintenance. The position requires working in an industrial marine environment that may include wet cold and slippery conditions as well as exposure to noise machinery and varying weather conditions. During the Bristol Bay season employees should be prepared for extended workdays that may reach 16 hours depending on operational needs. Employees must be able to stand and walk for extended periods navigate ladders and stairways work in tight or confined spaces and safely move throughout a barge and processing facility environment. The role may also require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
