Job Summary

The City of Winklers Community Services department creates opportunities for Winklers residents and visitors to stay active have fun and be a part of the community. This department maintains and operates our indoor and outdoor recreation facilities organizes recreational programming and plans community events. What Youll Do
Reporting to the Head Custodian the Part-time Community Services Custodian serves the public by cleaning recreation facilities and grounds. Job responsibilities for this position change the summer the role includes cleaning and restocking outdoor washrooms and cleaning outdoor recreation the winter responsibilities are more focused on the Meridian Exhibition Centre and Centennial Arena including cleaning the facilities restocking bathrooms emptying garbage cans and moving nets during hockey games.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Make sure the washrooms dressing rooms meeting rooms bleachers fields paths and other high traffic areas remain clean throughout the shift.
  • Sweep and wash floors with brooms dry mops mops and an autoscrubber.
  • Move nets during hockey games when the Zamboni is resurfacing the ice.
  • Sanitize surfaces.
  • Empty garbage and recycling containers.
  • Restock washroom supplies (toilet paper paper towels soap etc.).
  • Clean and disinfect toilets urinals sinks counters and mirrors.
  • Assist with snow clearing on walkways.
  • Other general cleaning throughout facilities and grounds.
  • And other relevant tasks as assigned.

Qualifications Youll Need
Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience with operating custodial equipment and supplies is an asset.
  • Class 5 drivers license.
  • Will be required to take training in basic first aid CPR and WHIMIS.
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check Child Abuse Registry Check Adult Abuse Registry Check.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Must be a team player.
  • Ability to work alone including completing tasks in a timely fashion task prioritization and moving on to the next task.
  • Ability to notice details in the cleanliness of facilities and a pride in meeting high standards.
  • Clear written and oral communications skills are required.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Be physically capable of performing work tasks.
  • Must be safety conscious in all matters related to custodial work staff and the public.


Job Details

  • Part-time hours about 25 hours per week. Shift schedules will vary based on the winter shifts could be day or evening on weekdays or weekends. Evening shifts can go until 12:00am. In the summer shifts will mostly be during the day.
  • Pay Range is $20.11 to $23.89 per hour depending on experience.
  • Indoor and outdoor work in public spaces. Work in various weather conditions may be required.
  • Primarily active physical work involving cleaning at various heights reaching behind objects lifting equipment and supplies weighing up to 50lbs going onto slippery surfaces such as ice.
  • Work requires the use of PPE.
  • Hazards associated with working with hand tools and power equipment working outdoors working on ice operating vehicles working in public working at heights and working with hazardous materials.
