ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Engineering and Building team sits within the Environment and Planning Directorate and focuses on services and advice in relation to engineering and building activities in the Cumberland area. The team is responsible for the delivery of engineering assessment infrastructure design traffic and transport stormwater and flooding and building assessment.
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and passionate Building Surveyor (Graduate) to support the Building Assessment Unit in effectively undertaking the assessment and processing of statutory building applications including the provision of technical advice recommendations and conditions of approval. The role is responsible for preparing building assessment reports and where required assisting with duty officer enquiries.
The successful applicant will require:
- Tertiary qualifications (or similar) in building surveying and/or engineering (or working towardsit)
- Experience in the Development Assessment/Building Construction process
- Knowledge of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 Local Government Act 1993 the Building Code of Australia (BCA) State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and
Complying Development Codes) 2008 and other associated Legislation including the Swimming Pools Act Boarding Houses Act and Roads Act - Class C Drivers Licence
- Hold a current General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Ability to meet deadlines on a daily basis and possession of time management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to liaise with customers
- Competency in using computer based systems.

About this role:
- Permanent full-time position
- 70 hour fortnight
- Access to Councils 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
- Located at Councils Auburn office with occasional travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Councils work locations
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
- Grade 11 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1765.48 to $2030.30 per week plus 12% superannuation
- The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicants qualifications skills and experience related to the role
