The School of Health Sciences at Madison College is hiring a full-time Surgical Technologist Instructor. Madison College is a comprehensive open-access institution providing a high-quality education to a diverse population including first-generation college students. We are seeking motivated and engaged candidates who share a willingness to collaborate with other faculty members staff students and the community at large. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the field and to student learning and a willingness to grow as an educator while contributing to a collaborative and forward-thinking program.

Experienced Certified Surgical Technologists who are interested in transitioning from clinical practice into teaching are encouraged to apply. Support and mentoring are available for faculty who are new to teaching.

Full-time faculty work a nine-month contract for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters) and teaching summer courses if available is optional with additional pay. Our goal is to conduct virtual interviews on April 17th and April 20th and second-round in person interviews on April 29th and April 30th with an August 13 2026 start date.

This position is responsible for teaching Surgical Technology at the college level. Responsibilities include delivering high-quality instruction using established curriculum and course materials adapting and enhancing instructional strategies to support student learning utilizing effective teaching technologies and learning environments assessing student progress advising students and contributing to the ongoing improvement of curriculum and instruction. Faculty also participate in college service activities at the department school and college levels.

A faculty member in this position may teach any of the core Surgical Technology courses listed under the associates degree. Other teaching opportunities may be assigned depending on departmental needs. Most Surgical Technology courses are offered in person during the day with some online offerings.

This position reports to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences.

Essential Duties:

-Facilitate student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to fit students needs and support student engagement. Revise curriculum to improve student learning.

-Evaluate student performance and provide regular feedback in courses taught by the instructor.

-Contribute to student success and retention by advising students with course selection career concerns internships and other matters.

-Serve as an advocate for students and engage in activities that help students achieve their goals such as writing letters of recommendation and/or helping students link with internships service learning job shadowing and other forms of networking.

-Provide support to the program the school and the college by attending and engaging in events and meetings and participating fully within the team environment.

-Continually improve teaching through professional development activities and the integration of new techniques and technology. This includes the development and implementation of an individualized professional development plan.

-Maintains a commitment to the college mission vision and values.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

-Effective communication skills including demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.

-Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning. This includes but is not limited to knowledge/experience with current educational methods/strategies such as learner-centered instruction active learning assessment evaluation collaborative techniques and strategies aimed at closing the achievement gaps across race gender class and disability (through inclusive pedagogy).

- Desire and ability to teach courses at the technical/occupational program level.

-Ability to communicate complex and difficult concepts and ideas to students with varied backgrounds and levels of preparedness.

-Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies techniques and delivery methods as well as incorporating appropriate use of new and emerging technologies into the learning environment.

-Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on course and program promotion direction and innovation.

Minimum Qualifications

One of the following:

• Associate degree or higher in Surgical Technology or a related field and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential; or

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential with the ability to obtain an Associate degree in Surgical Technology or a related field within three years of hire. (Madison College offers tuition reimbursement)

Experience Requirement

• Two years (4000 hours) of related occupational experience required.

• At least one year (2000 hours) must be within the past five years. This requirement may be waived with two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the field within the same timeframe.

• Experience with or willingness to learn different modes of instruction (online hybrid Classroom Live and modes of the future).
