Job Summary

Under the direction of the Medical Director and Director of Medical Imaging independently performs professional-level assessments and a variety of non-invasive studies using ultrasound and related diagnostic technology as appropriate and records the results and clinical preliminary impressions as indicated. Operates ultrasound equipment to produce sonographic images according to departmental protocols ensuring optimal diagnostic imaging quality and safe patient care utilizing efficient and safe processes. Shall comply with all applicable laws and rules including SBHD organizational standards policies and procedures. He/she maintains a strong commitment to outstanding patient care thrives in a fast-paced complex environment; and is a team player who honors others with mutual respect courtesy and personal accountability.

Responsibilities

Notifies appropriate medical staff if there are significant abnormal findings or delays.
Follows departmental procedures for completing ultrasound exams including equipment utilization and execution of scan protocols.
Obtains essential information from patients medical records and previous exams for clinical correlation.
Determine diagnostic parameters as needed to acquire accurate images of anatomy pathophysiological data and blood flow analysis relative to the patients clinical presentation clinical history and referral information.
Knowledge of computer systems and software used in submitting images to the Radiologist.
Select representative images from the exam and compose appropriate annotations.
Cooperatively interact with the health care team to support and contribute to the shared group goals.
Assures that the proper examination is performed on the correct patient and understands the clinical reason the exam is being performed.
Coordinates workflow with medical center co-workers cooperatively and collaboratively.
Demonstrates awareness of Joint Commission requirements and all applicable Federal State and local regulations.
Prepares room as needed for each exam with appropriate supplies and maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
Conducts assessment of the patient and performs and documents teaching regarding each exam.
Establishes and maintains a positive relationship with all customers.
Works effectively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure the delivery of comprehensive quality care to all patients.
Follows policy and procedure on high-level disinfection of transducers.

Required Skills/Abilities

Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures the Diagnostic Medical Sonographer performs and records diagnostic ultrasound procedures. Obtains information about internal organs fluid accumulations disease diagnosis the study of malfunction of organs and prenatal examination of fetuses and placenta amongst others. Ensures that ultrasound tests are of diagnostic quality and record results. May perform or assist physicians in carrying out more complex examinations by preparing or assisting in sterile procedures. Serves as a resource to other Sonographers and support staff in the resolution of work-related problems and coordinating patient flow.

A Sonographer I is an employee who has his/her RDMS credential and one registry in a specialty of either AB or OB/GYN. The sonographer must demonstrate and maintain competency in all areas including the designated specialties.

Qualifications:
National certification in Medical Sonography RDMS (within 6 months of employment): AB or OB/GYN
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Provider Course

Language Skills:
Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
Additional languages preferred.

Skills:
Basic computer knowledge is required.
Ultrasound requires precise and accurate performance sometimes under pressured conditions.
Operates ultrasound equipment to produce ultrasound images of the body according to departmental protocols ensuring optimal diagnostic imaging quality and safe patient care utilizing efficient and safe processes.
Provide patient care services and technical skills as well as a strong working knowledge of anatomy and pathology pertaining to ultrasound imaging.

Education & Experience

Minimum: Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and Associate of Science.
Preferred: Graduate of Joint Review Committee on Education in Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (JRCERT/CAAHEP) approved school and a Bachelor of Science in Sonography or related field.

Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and Associate of certification in Medical Sonography RDMS (within 6 months of employment): AB or OB/ Basic Cardiac Life Support Provider Course.

Job Type: Per Diem Variable Shifts

Pay: $75.00 -$101.00 per hour
