Purpose of Position
The Staff Accountant ensures accurate and timely financial operations by managing billing supporting monthly close activities overseeing tax and compliance filings and maintaining key accounting schedules. The role delivers clear financial reporting and analysis supports payroll and benefits administration and provides quality review and guidance to bookkeeping staff to help maintain strong financial controls and operational efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the full monthly billing process.
- Assist with monthly and quarterly close activities including journal entries reconciliations and preparation of financial statements.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and balance sheet reconciliations support AP AR and banking activities.
- Provide meaningful financial reporting variance analysis and trend insights.
- Research and document technical accounting tax and compliance matters.
- Prepare detailed workpapers for company income tax filings.
- Manage multi-state tax filings business license renewals annual reports and property tax assessments.
- Oversee year-end 1099 preparation and submissions.
- Review bookkeepers work for accuracy provide coaching and support ongoing training.
- Identify opportunities to automate processes and recommend technology enhancements to improve efficiency.
- Assist with and maintain the client engagement setup and processes.
- Support payroll administration including benefit enrollment and deduction administration and monthly benefits reconciliation.
- Provide general administrative support and contribute to internal projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in accounting preferred.
- Minimum 5 years relevant experience in accounting and human resource operations or related administrative support roles.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and other cloud-based accounting platforms.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite document-sharing platforms (Dropbox etc.) and virtual collaboration tools (e.g. Zoom GoToMeeting).
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in accounting functions including reconciliations billing AP/AR accounting payroll journal entries and allocations monthly close and financial reporting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate financial concepts clearly and effectively to both internal teams and clients.
- Strong organizational and project management skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
- Exceptional level of accuracy organization and attention to detail in handling sensitive accounting financial and human resources data.
- Demonstrates a growth mindset and solutions-oriented approach by proactively seeking opportunities to learn adapt and improve processes.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to identify issues analyze data and escalate appropriately.
