Department:In-Patient Psychiatry
Schedule:Full-Time

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of patients including history-taking mental status exams and diagnostic assessments.

• Diagnose a wide range of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders anxiety psychosis addiction-related disorders and dementia.

• Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team focusing on pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.

• Prescribe psychiatric medications and monitor patients for effectiveness side effects and any necessary adjustments.

• Participate in daily treatment team meetings providing input on patient care and treatment progress.

• Collaborate with psychiatrists social workers nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.

• Support patients and families with education on psychiatric conditions medication regimens and recovery strategies.

• Provide ongoing management of patients ensuring continuity of care through discharge planning and follow-up.

• Ensure documentation of patient assessments progress and treatment plans is complete and accurate in the electronic health record (EHR).

• Stay current on best practices treatment modalities and advancements in psychiatric care.

• Participate in performance improvement initiatives and quality assurance processes to improve patient care and outcomes.

• He/She will also act as an expert witness for court cases involving civil commitments and guardianships

Qualifications:

• Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

• Current Nurse Practitioner license in the state of Massachusetts.

• Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is required.

• Two years of prior experience in psychiatric settings is preferred including inpatient care medication management and crisis intervention.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in an inpatient psychiatric setting including with diverse patient populations.

• Knowledge of evidence-based practices in psychiatric care and mental health recovery.
