LOCATION: Salford Hybrid

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: 28100 - 36267 depending on relevant skills knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Are you passionate about helping young people develop their media literacy skills

As an Assistant Producer with the school workshops team you will help deliver an outreach programme right across the UK.

You will develop the content for media literacy workshops co-ordinate volunteers and schools and help deliver the lessons in a classroom environment.

This is a unique opportunity to connect with young audiences and be part of the BBCs mission to improve media literacy.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

The workshops form part of BBC Bitesize The Other Side of the Story project. This project helps to empower 11-16-year-olds to make positive changes to the way they consume and share news and content.

We produce fun engaging and thought-provoking content that helps dig beneath the surface of fake news bias and social media trends.

We engage young people and help them gain the confidence and tools to feel like their voice matters.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • The role will involve producing content to be used in the workshops and recruiting and training volunteer ambassadors to take part in the delivery of the workshops.
  • The role will also involve attending a number of schools across the UK to help deliver the programme. This means you will need to be able to travel and ideally drive.
  • You will contribute creative ideas bringing highest quality content production skills which may involve research writing editing technical operations audio online and interactive production activities.
  • You will be highly organised and ideally have some experience of working on another outreach or audience facing project.
  • Youll have a keen interest in news and social media trends and experience and knowledge of working in a news environment and/or background in journalism.
  • Knowledge of the latest trends and issues affecting teenagers is important and youll ideally have some experience of working with schools and a young audience.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Experience of writing clear and concise material which may be used for web articles briefs and presentations
  • Experience of working with or creating resources for schools teachers and/or education consultants.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of news and social media trends
  • Effective planning and organising skills including the ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time prioritising delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for connecting with young people

DESIRABLE:

  • Ability to edit and create content for digital platforms using Adobe and PS
  • Background in Journalism
  • Ability to make complex issues fun engaging and easy to understand
  • Understanding of and passion for the BBCs core values and sound editorial judgement
  • Presenting experience ideally within a school environment or to younger audiences
