The Tŝilhqotin Nation has always asserted its inherent right to self-government including jurisdiction over its families and children. As part of this journey Tŝilhqotin Nidlin (We are Tŝilhqotin) was created to exercise jurisdiction and ensure culturally grounded family services across the Nation.
The Nexwedesniqi Ghaxiztan provides operational oversight of culturally grounded programs and services within Tŝilhqotin Nidlin. This role ensures that services are delivered in alignment with Tsilhqotin Law established practice standards and organizational policies. The position leads teams strengthens partnerships and supports program planning and implementation to ensure consistent accountable and community-centered service delivery across communities.
The Nexwedesniqi Ghaxiztan will report on program and service delivery performance while overseeing budget and financial management to ensure compliance and build and maintain strong working relationships to support effective program and service outcomes. This position will support transparent respectful and culturally grounded engagement with Tŝilhqotin communities and families and identify risks gaps and emerging needs in service delivery.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Social Work or a related field preferred; equivalent combinations of education experience and community knowledge will be considered.
- Minimum five (5) years progressive experience in child and family services social services or Indigenous service delivery.
- Minimum three (3) years experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience overseeing programs or service delivery including performance monitoring and continuous improvement.
- Experience managing budgets and working within funding agreements and reporting requirements.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous child and family legislation and practice frameworks (e.g. CFCSA AOPSI delegated agency models federal legislation such as Bill C-92).
- Knowledge of Tsilhqotin Law governance culture and community context with a commitment to culturally grounded practice.
- Strong leadership relationship-building communication and decision-making skills.
Working Conditions and Expectations
- Must reside in or be willing to move to Tŝilhqotin Nation territory (or Williams Lake area BC)
- Frequent travel within and outside Tŝilhqotin Territory including consistent visits to each of the six Tŝilhqotin communities
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs
- Valid BC Drivers License required
- Clean criminal records check including vulnerable sector check
