The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join our diverse group of Accounting and Payroll professionals. As part of our award-winning Finance team the Payroll Administrator must value accuracy above all else. Under general supervision this role performs a variety of advanced technical accounting support duties involved in the processing of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authoritys (RTAA) payroll to ensure timely and accurate payment of employees on a biweekly basis; and performs other related duties as assigned.
If you are the right candidate for this role you are meticulous and have an uncanny ability to read and correctly interpret complex contracts to determine the rules for paying those who are covered on one of 4 (four) different collective bargaining agreements. You are comfortable navigating a complex payroll system (Tyler/Munis) and making sure youve got it right before you hit enter. You are patient and willing to teach employees and managers about the correct way to enter time or to understand how complex rules are applied in various circumstances. The Payroll Administrator classification exists to perform highly responsible payroll and related general ledger accounting processing reconciliation verification administration and reporting duties. Incumbents are expected to perform these functions in an accurate timely manner in accordance with legal requirements and sound financial management principles and practices.
Examples of Essential Duties:
Verify audit edit and initiate processing of bi-weekly payroll; review employees timecards; identify and work with appropriate departments leadership to resolve time reporting discrepancies and process the appropriate changes.
Generate review and reconcile payroll reports to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll earning statements and deductions; identify and resolve discrepancies; generate payroll checks; transmit direct deposit files; verify that each employee receives payroll check or earnings statement each pay period.
Establish and maintain payroll records; keep abreast of changes in bargaining agreements Federal and State laws rules and regulations; update and maintain payroll codes retirement rates and Federal and State tax changes; enter employee salary deduction and tax information in the payroll system; process wage garnishments; review audit and correct records as necessary.
Ensure that RTAA meets legal requirements regarding payroll taxes and garnishments; provide all necessary information and payments to IRS State tax authorities and other regulatory bodies.
Compile information develop complete analyze review reconcile and file quarterly and annual payroll tax and other required reports for Federal and State government agencies including generating reviewing and distributing W2s and corresponding reports within mandated timeframes.
Maintain records and process deductions and payments for post-employment benefit programs including PERS PEHP and deferred compensation plans; audit and correct records as needed; provide timely and accurate reports to the State.
Audit balance and/or reconcile general ledger payroll accounts some of which may be highly complex; identify and resolve issues.
Develop review update and/or distribute specialized reports and spreadsheets; review and audit reports identify discrepancies notify supervisor and other appropriate stakeholders ensure that issues are resolved.
Interpret current payroll policies and procedures to employees; answer employees technical questions; research and handle daily inquiries from employees on a wide array of technical matters related to payroll.

Minimum Education & Experience
High School diploma or equivalent certificate. An equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in payroll processing.
Five (5) years minimum years in accounting.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time reach bend climb lift push and pull items.
May need to lift items up to 15lbs on occasion.
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to traverse throughout the terminal and administrative offices area as needed.

Licenses & Certifications
Possession of a valid Nevada Drivers License; ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
Knowledge Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of advanced methods practices documents and terminology used in payroll finance and accounting recordkeeping.
Knowledge of payroll laws regulations Collective Bargaining Agreements and MOU provisions applicable to timekeeping payroll preparation and pay reporting.
Knowledge of automated financial management systems and computerized accounting/payroll software programs.
Knowledge of general ledger accounting related to payroll and invoice processing. Experience in reconciling payroll accounts to the general ledger.
Ability to search for select and compile/summarize data and information.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of personnel documents and records.
Ability to accurately maintain financial and statistical records such as payroll records budget payables receivables journals ledgers financial documents statements reports and analyses.
Ability to perform mathematical computations and comparisons of data; tabulate record and balance transactions.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other staff when explaining the functions and policies respond to questions from the public and RTAA personnel regarding policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
Entry Salary: $71200 to $86200 annually based on experience with opportunity for annual step-based increases up to a maximum of $101100. This is a salary and overtime exempt position. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications.
