Job Summary
The Lead Line Engineer (PNY Powering New York) is responsible for high voltage medium voltage and low voltage transmission and distribution line designs for all operating companies in Avangrid Networks with strong focus on high and medium voltage transmission projects in NYSEG and RGE service territories which are part of the PNY portfolio of projects. The Lead Engineer will work closely with the construction and design team to develop drawings specifications and construction work orders to support the design construction and commissioning of electrical equipment. Line designs include structural or electrical calculations routing and preparation of engineering drawings. The PNY projects originate from the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) which stems from New York States Climate Act with a goal to reduce economy-wide greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030 (no less than 85% of 1990 levels by 2050) and 70% States Energy from renewable resources by 2030 (100% from zero emissions Electric Sources by 2040). The electric delivery system in New York contains approximately 5600 miles of transmission lines & 621 substations. Position reports to the Unit Manager but will work day-to-day in a cross functional project team and support project needs as directed by the project manager(s) & construction manager(s).
Key Responsibilities
Capital project engineering performance including all phases such as scoping and budgeting conceptual engineering contract management and design engineering design construction and closeout.
Responsible for leading and creating new conceptual designs and overseeing the work of external detailed designers.
Perform field circuit reviews based on the projects scope provided and identify proposed improvements.
Proactively identify and perform special projects and studies that innovatively solve unique and complex problems with broad impact to the business.
Develop innovative alternate methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services
Solve unique and complex engineering problems. Identify innovative solutions
Oversee engineering studies to evaluate equipment and system performance and effectiveness and analyze operational issues in support of system reliability and operational efficiency.
Develop and validate information needed for engineering analyses and applying engineering judgment to solve technical problems
Ensure all engineering designs meet applicable company local state and national codes and standards
Represent the company on regional and national committees when needed.
Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department.
Mentor develop and support team in technical skills.
Ability to collaborate across departments as a technical subject matter expert liaison while directing contractors on company policy standards and best practices.

Required Qualifications
Technical Skills/Competencies
Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning Operations and Engineering Design Analytic modeling & Calculation understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization)
Practical engineering experience/application - Planning Operations and Engineering Design Construction (e.g. field experience standardization Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.)
Engineering documentation - Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation
Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others - to ensure compliance with company standards specifications and contract requirements
Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment - Local State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements
Experience/Training:
Engineering/Professional qualification or equivalent experience
7 years of experience in the delivery of projects as necessary
Relevant network construction and operational experience to include field inspections PLS-CADD Modeling - Expert
Computer literacy
Required Education:
Bachelors degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or Construction Engineering Management
Professional Engineering License Preferred
