What to expect:
The Director Global Trade Compliance is responsible for defining and leading the enterprise-wide trade compliance strategy operating model and capability roadmap to support global business growth operational performance and regulatory compliance.
This role is accountable for the design effectiveness and performance of the global trade compliance program including the deployment and optimization of global trade management systems.
The position requires a forward-looking leader who can translate regulatory requirements into scalable business capabilities define a clear vision for the function and lead the organization in executing that vision. This includes fostering a culture where trade compliance enables speed confidence and success in global operations.
- Define the global trade compliance strategy aligned with business objectives growth priorities and risk tolerance.
- Establish and maintain the global operating model including roles responsibilities governance and regional alignment.
- Develop and maintain a multi-year roadmap to build and scale trade compliance capabilities.
- Ensure alignment between trade compliance strategy and broader enterprise initiatives (e.g. supply chain transformation market expansion digital initiatives).

- Own and be accountable for the effectiveness and performance of the global trade compliance program.
- Establish global policies standards and procedures governing trade compliance activities.
- Ensure consistent implementation and execution across regions with appropriate flexibility for local requirements.
- Define and monitor program KPIs performance metrics and risk indicators.
- Oversee internal audits assessments and remediation efforts.
- Define the enterprise strategy for global trade management systems.
- Be accountable for the successful deployment adoption and ongoing optimization of GTM capabilities.
- Ensure trade compliance processes are embedded into system workflows data structures and automation strategies.
- Partner with IT and business leaders to align system capabilities with operational needs and growth plans.
- Drive continuous improvement in data quality process efficiency and control effectiveness through system enablement.
- Import valuation and supporting data management.
- Sanctioned/restricted party screening and end-use due diligence.
- Import entry processing and controls.
- Tariff classification and data management.
- Export transaction review clearance and controls.
- Regulatory requirements management (e.g. partner government agency requirements).
- Broker and forwarder management and oversight.
- Utilization of preferential trade programs.
- Ensure global alignment while enabling effective regional execution.
- Country of origin determination and supporting data.
- Export control classification and data management.
- License determination and management including oversight of application support usage monitoring and recordkeeping.
- Partner with executive leadership across Supply Chain Procurement Finance Legal IT and Commercial functions.
- Ensure trade compliance is embedded into core business processes and decision-making.
- Support strategic initiatives (e.g. new markets new business models acquisitions) with scalable compliance solutions.
- Act as a key advisor to senior leadership on trade compliance risks opportunities and regulatory developments.
- Establish global governance frameworks including escalation pathways and decision-making structures.
- Serve as the senior point of contact for regulatory authorities government agencies and external stakeholders as appropriate.
- Ensure the organization is prepared for and responsive to audits inquiries and regulatory changes.
- Maintain visibility into global risk exposure and ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
- Build lead and develop a high-performing global trade compliance organization.
- Define required capabilities roles and skill sets to support current and future needs.
- Foster a culture in which trade compliance activities and performance enable enterprise success.
- Promote accountability collaboration and continuous improvement across regions and functions.
- Develop leadership capability within regional teams.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in trade compliance global trade operations or related fields.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role within trade compliance with responsibility for program oversight and decision-making.
- Prior experience leading & mentoring a team of Trade Compliance employees
- Demonstrated experience defining and leading global trade compliance programs strategies and operating models.
- Demonstrated experience implementing or operating global trade management systems (e.g. Oracle GTM SAP GTS or similar).
- Experience working across multiple regions and regulatory environments.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale cross-functional initiatives and drive organizational change.
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Business International Trade Finance or a related field.
- Advanced degree (e.g. MBA Juris Doctor (JD) Masters in International Business Supply Chain or related discipline).
- Experience in healthcare life sciences or other regulated industries.
- Experience supporting high-growth internationally expanding organizations.
- Experience with automation analytics or digital transformation initiatives.
- Professional certifications in trade compliance customs or supply chain (e.g. Licensed Customs Broker CCS or equivalent).
The annualized base salary range for this role is $143600 to $255000 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience skillset knowledge geography education business needs and market demand..
