Environmental Technician

We seek a Junior Environmental Technician based in Fayetteville NC to support environmental remediation demolition and site restoration for industrial municipal and federal clients across the Carolinas.  You will work alongside experienced supervisors and field crews to execute field tasks safely and efficiently maintain high-quality documentation and support operations maintenance and sampling activities.

This role emphasizes learning hands-on fieldwork and adherence to safety and quality protocols with growth opportunities into advanced field and supervisory responsibilities.

Field Operations & Site Support

• Assist with daily field activities for remediation demolition excavation/backfill cap/cover placement trenching and site restoration per work plans and specifications.

• Set up and maintain work zones exclusion areas decon stations erosion/sediment controls and dust suppression equipment.

• Support equipment and materials staging site housekeeping and end-of-day site closeout.

• Work closely with subcontractors and equipment operators under direction of the site supervisor.

Environmental Sampling & Systems Support

• Support groundwater soil and soil vapor sampling programs (sample collection preservation documentation and chain-of-custody).

• Assist with remediation system O&M (e.g. pump-and-treat vapor mitigation): routine checks gauge readings basic troubleshooting and minor maintenance.

• Help with waste handling packaging labeling staging and manifest preparation for hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with procedures.

• Monitor stormwater BMPs and erosion/sediment controls consistent with North Carolina requirements.

Health & Safety Participation

• Follow AECOM safety policies and Site-Specific Health and Safety Plans (SSHPs); participate in JHAs/tailgates and stop work if unsafe conditions arise.

• Use required PPE correctly report incidents near misses and unsafe conditions immediately.

• Maintain compliance with OSHA and applicable state requirements during all phases of work.

Documentation & QA/QC

• Maintain complete and accurate field logs daily reports equipment logs photo documentation and chain-of-custody records.

• Perform basic data entry and QA/QC checks for measurements and sampling results.

• Support preparation of progress updates and closeout documentation for project deliverables.

Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate day-to-day needs with the site supervisor project manager subcontractors and client representatives as directed.

• Communicate field status issues and material/equipment needs promptly and professionally.

• Participate in mobilization/demobilization planning and readiness checks.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma (or equivalent) or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.

• U.S. citizenship (due to project requirements); sponsorship is not available.

• Ability to pass client-required drug screening background check and motor vehicle records check; valid U.S. drivers license.

• Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather/terrain lift/carry up to 50 lbs stand for extended periods and work overtime/weekends as project needs dictate.

• OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER (current) or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire (training provided).

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 years of environmental remediation construction utilities or industrial fieldwork experience.

• Current OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER with recent refresher; OSHA 10 or 30 Construction and CPR/First Aid certifications.

• Experience with basic sampling meter use (e.g. PID multi-parameter) and remediation system O&M tasks.

• Familiarity with RCRA waste handling basics vapor intrusion mitigation and site decon procedures.

• Exposure to earthwork and heavy construction techniques; ability to read basic construction plans and follow specifications.

• Proficiency with field documentation (daily reports chain-of-custody photo logs); basic Excel/Word skills.

• Experience working on EPA Superfund or federal programs (e.g. DOD/USACE) is a plus.
