Job Overview
The Underwriter I Personal Lines is responsible for assessing the acceptability Auto and Property risks in accordance with company guidelines. This role works closely with other Underwriting staff of all levels and Wawanesa Broker partners to deliver exceptional customer service and sound underwriting decisions.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform risk analysis using technology as well as external data sources for the purposes of quoting negotiating and authorizing the acceptance of risk.
- Maintain accurate records of decisions made and maintain completeness of policy data.
- Determine eligibility for new business policy renewals and other transactions based on guidelines and retention goals of the company.
- Ensure understanding of and practical application of company policies procedures and underwriting guidelines using critical thinking and exception-based underwriting.
- Communicate decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner.
- Effectively balance prioritize and reprioritize fast-paced work assignments and incoming queue calls.
- Lead and support a positive work environment upholding Wawanesa values and a team-forward culture.
- Build positive working relationships with internal and external parties including networking at industry events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Willingness to enroll in or actively pursuing a Property and Casualty Industry Designation.
- Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
- Strong attention to detail analytical problem solving and communication skills.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to provide justification.
- Demonstrated planning and organizing skills with the ability to prioritize daily tasks.
- Experience working in insurance is an asset.
