Job Summary

Description

Installs repairs and maintains electrical wiring conduits fixtures controls appliances and related apparatus. Coordinates and oversees the work of electrician and others.

Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Installs maintains and repairs electrically operated equipment and appliances. Evaluates repairs and modifies complex control circuits motor control centers starters variable speed drives sewer ejector systems and well pumps.
Replaces defective wiring breakers branch circuit panel boxes retrofit panels interior and exterior ballasts for lighting fuses and HVAC electrical elements. Installs lighting fixtures and power outlets. Installs electric circuits to air conditioners.
Performs basic surveys to verify the availability of adequate electrical power to operate equipment. Performs routine preventive maintenance on electrically operated equipment.
Installs fixtures outlets and switches. Cuts threads and bends conduits and raceways including wire molds. Installs new wiring methods including BX MC Cable Greenfield and Sealtite.
Replaces defective wiring. Replaces faulty electrical components such as starters and motor controllers. Repairs equipment.
Drives automobiles vans and large and small trucks to travel to job sites and to transport tools equipment and materials. Lifts and carries tools equipment and materials. Climbs ladders to perform electrical work at heights. Bends stoops and crawls to perform electrical work in crawl spaces confined spaces restricted spaces and similar areas.
Operates a bucket truck to replace exterior lights and to access the upper levels of buildings. Operates a large cargo van. Operates an air hammer trackhoe and excavator. Operates a trencher to lay underground wire.
Uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment. Reads blueprints plans and schematic drawings. Follows safety procedures and electrical codes.
Records and maintains accurate records of work performed time and materials used on projects. Prepares lists to ensure efficient use of parts and supplies to be requisitioned for assigned jobs.
Communicates appropriately and frequently with faculty school administrators supervisor/manager(s) and other employees.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Training and Experience:

Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
Possession of a State of Maryland Journey electricians license fulfills experiential requirement.

Licenses and Certifications

Possession of a State of Maryland Journey Electricians license or an equivalent.
Possession of a valid class C Maryland drivers license or an equivalent.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of commercial electrical work. Knowledge of the tools equipment and materials used in electrical repair maintenance and installation. Knowledge of electrical codes. Knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
Skill in the installation maintenance and repair of electrically operated equipment and appliances. Skill in installing and repairing electrical circuitry and electrical components. Skill in reading and interpreting electrical codes blueprints plans and schematics. Skill in the operation of tools and equipment used in the installation testing and repair of electrical equipment circuitry and components. Skill in diagnosing and resolving electrical problems.
Ability to communicate effectively.

Citizenship residency or work VISA in United States required

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The work of this class entails heavy physical labor including frequent walking standing kneeling reaching bending digging lifting and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight ascending/descending ladders scaffolds stairs and the use of tools and equipment.
Works in confined spaces in proximity to loud machinery frequently requires accessing and positioning oneself to reach limited access spaces including but not limited to crawl spaces roofs trenches pits manholes attics and tunnels.
Recognizes exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery in adverse weather conditions and travel to sites throughout Baltimore County.

Grade 11 - AFSCME Pay Scale

SALARY:

$30.37 - $45.83(Hourly Base Pay Scale for All Employees Represented by AFSCME)

OTHER COMPENSATION:

Annual completion of continuing education/training in accordance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Professional Standards for School Nutrition Employees.
