FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
WORKSITE: Ravenswood Family Dentistry- East Palo Alto 1807 Bay Road East Palo Alto
HOURS: On Call - 8:00am-5:00pm
DAYS OF THE WEEK: Variable

MISSION
The mission of Ravenswood Family Health Network (RFHN) is to improve the health of the community by providing culturally sensitive integrated primary and preventative health care to all regardless of ability to pay or immigration status and collaborating with community partners to address the social determinants of health.
Ravenswood Family Dentistry is a dental clinic located in East Palo Alto Redwood City and satellite locations on the Mobile van The Primary School and the operating room. We provide dental care to people of all ages regardless of their ability to pay. As a multi-cultural community dental clinic our goal is to provide excellent dental care to our patients We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable On-Call Dental Assistant to support our team during busy periods or staff absences.
POSITION Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Dental Clinic Supervisor the Dental Assistant provides quality patient care by assisting dentists and other team members with clinical office and laboratory duties. This role supports efficient patient flow through timely and accurate preparation including taking and processing X-rays maintaining patient records and assisting providers with all dental treatments. This position serves as the dentists or dental hygienists chair-side assistant and is responsible for preparing operatories and instruments for patient treatment taking accurate dental radiographs assures that all patient records and documents are properly and accurately documented in the electronic dental record cleans and sanitizes operatories and participates in appropriate health promotion/disease prevention activities both on-site and off-site as required assists with inventory sterilization and other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
To be performed in accordance with RFHN Policies and Procedures
Patient Management
- Ensure patients enjoy a positive experience and are treated with care and compassion.
- Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely accurately and consistent with all HIPAA and related regulations and requirements.
- Assists patients in completing forms answering their questions and giving directions to patients as authorized by the dentist or hygienist.
- Serves as the dental providers chair-side assistant supporting the dentist utilizing the principles of four handed dentistry.
- Sets up and tears down operatories for patient care and prepares operatories for patient treatment as per the dental providers directions or treatment plan.
- Help patients feel comfortable before during and after dental treatment.
- Takes and records patient vitals in the patients electronic health record.
- Sets up takes and confirms that intra oral extraoral and 3-D dental radiographs are accurate as ordered utilizing the ALARA principles.
- Is proficient in providing services allowable under scope of practice as described by the Dental Board of California.
- Places varnishes as ordered and directed.
- Follows OSHA infection control guidelines and RFD infection control policies and procedures.
- Maintains dental equipment and areas in accordance with manufacturers directions and Dental Department policy and protocol.
- Maintains adequate operatory supplies and compiles a list of individual item shortages for inventory control and ordering purposes.
- Assists dental providers with treatment planning and documenting findings in the electronic health record.
- Assists with various clinical and administrative functions as appropriate.
- Ensures the proper disposal of all materials in accordance with Dental Department directive center policy as well as state and federal regulation(s).
Sterilization
- Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments medical supplies and equipment and assembles wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments.
- Understands and follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
- Follows OSHA infection control guidelines and RFD infection control policies and procedures.
- Maintains dental equipment in accordance with manufacturers directions and Dental Department policy and protocol.
- Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
- Sorts mismatched sets of instruments trays and medical equipment and makes them available for sterile processing and to dental staff to use in a timely manner.
- Restocks labels and maintains inventory submits requisitions collects and distributes instruments trays crash carts and facility medical equipment.
- Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing.
- Verifies that sterilization equipment functions properly requisitions for equipment maintenance repair or replacement and removes defective equipment.
- Maintains a clean work area.
- Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures objectives and quality improvement safety and environmental and infection control standards.
- Follows established protocols for maintaining dental sterilization equipment.
- Performs weekly spore testing on sterilization equipment and maintains logs.
- Maintain load logs of packages sterilizes.
- Check sterilized instruments for package integrity and sterilization status prior to storages
- Go through stored instruments to check for package integrity and packages sterilized more than 12 months ago to re-sterilize.
- Other duties as assigned and requested.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certificate of completion from an accredited course in dental assisting with completed internship OR completion of the Ravenswood Family Dentistry Dental Assistant On-the-Job Training Program.
- Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency highly desired.
- California Radiation Safety Certificate.
- Current BLS (CPR) Certification is required.
- Computer literate in a Windows environment;familiarity using dental electronic record OCHIN Wisdom is a plus.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills.
- Reliable organized detail oriented; able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Able to maintain complex records and files; and to meet and deal effectively with the public.
- Ability to work with all types of clients regardless of their immigration race housing or financial status.
- Commitment to support and implement the philosophy goals and objectives of RFHN.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
- Up to date with COVID-19 and other vaccines per current CDC guidelines recommended.
The pay range for this position is $26.00 to $36.00 per hour. However the final base salary will be determined upon a number of individualized factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position job-related knowledge skills experience education and certification levels and departmental budget. We also consider internal equity with our current employees when making final offers.
