Job Summary

The American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor BLS ACLS and PALS is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction for AHA certification and renewal courses including Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). The instructor ensures courses are delivered according to current AHA guidelines and Training Center standards.

This position works closely with the AHA Training Center Coordinator to support the planning coordination and successful implementation of all AHA educational programs. Responsibilities include assisting with course logistics equipment management instructor support and ensuring compliance with AHA and organizational policies. The role requires strong teaching ability clinical knowledge and the ability to engage learners in hands-on resuscitation training.

Essential Functions:

  • Instruction and Education Delivery
    Deliver instructor-led training for AHA BLS ACLS and PALS courses to healthcare providers and community participants.
    Facilitate hands-on skills practice simulation scenarios and testing stations according to AHA curriculum standards.
    Evaluate student competency through written exams performance checklists and skills testing.
    Provide constructive feedback and coaching to ensure learner competency and confidence in resuscitation practices.
    Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and learner needs. (40%)
  • Course Coordination and Training Center Support
    Work in conjunction with the AHA Training Center Coordinator to support the planning and coordination of scheduled AHA courses.
    Assist with course preparation classroom setup and coordination of educational materials and resources.
    Support training center operations including roster completion certification documentation and course record maintenance.
    Participate in instructor collaboration feedback and continuous improvement of resuscitation education programs.
    Assist with orientation or mentorship of new instructors when needed.

  • Equipment and Resource Management
    Prepare and maintain training equipment including manikins AED trainers airway devices and simulation equipment.
    Ensure equipment is cleaned functional and ready for each training session.
    Communicate equipment or supply needs to leadership to ensure adequate inventory.

  • Documentation and Compliance
    Complete all required course documentation in accordance with AHA and organizational policies.
    Ensure accuracy of course rosters testing documentation and certification records.
    Maintain instructor certification requirements and stay current with AHA guideline updates.
    (10%)
  • Communication and Quality Improvement
    Communicate course issues concerns or improvement opportunities to the Training Center Coordinator and Professional Development leadership.
    Participate in quality improvement efforts related to resuscitation education programs.
    Provide feedback on course delivery training processes and learner outcomes.
    (10%)


Schedule:

  • The hours for this position will vary between 4-20 hours per week depending on class enrollment and class schedules

Education:

  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program - Completion of an accredited post-secondary diploma or certificate program in a healthcare-related discipline with current professional licensure or certification (e.g. Paramedic Respiratory Therapist). Required


Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience in healthcare emergency response or clinical education. Required
  • 1-3 years previous teaching or instructional experience. Required


Licenses:

  • BLSI-Basic Life Support Instructor - AHA - American Heart Association Required
  • ACLSI-Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor - AHA - American Heart Association Required
  • PALSI-Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor - AHA - American Heart Association


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of American Heart Association resuscitation guidelines and course delivery standards
  • Knowledge of a variety of audio/visual aids for the classroom setting.
  • Ability to effectively teach clinical skills through demonstration simulation and hands-on instruction
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with learners instructors and staff
  • Ability to evaluate student performance and competency through skills and written testing
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to build rapport with students.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
