The New Mexico Working Families Party (NM-WFP) is seeking a dynamic and committed Political Director to lead and support our year-round electoral organizing and membership-building efforts. This role is ideal for a passionate campaigner and movement builder who is eager to engage the multiracial working class in transformative politics and help elect progressive champions across New Mexico. The ideal candidate is a natural organizer who thrives in high-energy campaign environments and is passionate about building power through elections and multiracial working class coalitions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Electoral Campaigning (35%)
- Work with the NM-WFP team State Committee and organizational partners to develop electoral plans including district profiles and an array of tactics like doors phones texting mail digital television etc.
- Develop budgets and help to fundraise for electoral campaigns.
- Provide campaign management on certain NM-WFP campaigns including voter targeting list and turf cutting script writing and canvass oversight.
- Lead the creation of NM-WFP communication materials for campaigns including mailers digital ads television spots etc.
- Recruit volunteers to support WFP endorsed campaigns through door-to-door canvassing phone banking and other campaign activities.
- Lead NM-WFP volunteer support training and appreciation efforts to build the states largest cadre of campaign volunteers.
- Provide training and technical assistance to endorsed campaigns on: creating district profiles voter targeting/turf cutting voter outreach script writing training and supporting volunteers design and messaging for mail and digital ads etc.
- Ensure campaign legal compliance and provide assistance with campaign finance.
- Member Engagement & Organizing (25%)
- Work with our partner organizations to attend their membership meetings to offer political education and present ways to get involved with NM-WFP activities including electoral and legislative/policy campaigns.
- Develop and implement a plan to engage and grow NM-WFP membership.
- Support our Grassroots Fundraising Strategy to collect dues from NM-WFP Members.
- Attend community events to connect with multiracial working class people and inform them about WFP through tabling and other activities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with members and community leaders to develop grassroots leadership.
- Organizational & Administrative Support (30%)
- Assist with NM-WFPs endorsement processes including:
- Schedule candidate interviews and coalition endorsement meetings; and
- Compile score and create summaries of questionnaires.
- Assist with State Committee and Elected Official Caucus logistics including scheduling meetings and taking minutes.
- Represent NM-WFP in coalition meetings and strategy tables.
- Assist with fundraising goals including researching and applying for grants.
- Assist with event planning and implementation as well as other activities of WFP locally and nationally.
- Maintain accurate volunteer and outreach data in EveryAction and other platforms
- Social Media & Digital Engagement (10%)
- Draft compelling social media content emails and other communications to promote NM-WFP electoral and legislative/policy campaigns as well as other political issues that are relevant to the multiracial working class.
- Develop and implement a plan to convert online members and followers to offline volunteers and activists
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Required
- Experience with electoral campaigning including field organizing and message development.
- Strong volunteer management and training skills with an emphasis on cultivating leadership and building sustained grassroots involvement.
- Experience with coalition work and representing an organization in partner spaces in a professional and collaborative manner.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse constituencies particularly within the multiracial working class.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to create compelling social media email and digital content for outreach and mobilization.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects track data and meet deadlines in a fast-paced campaign-oriented environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams across geographies in a hybrid and remote settings.
- Deep and demonstrated commitment to racial gender and economic justiceIntermediate computer skills including GSuite (Gmail Google Docs & Spreadsheets) and Zoom.
- Experience with mobilization platforms (Mobilize Scale to Win Spoke Action Network Mobile Commons etc.) or willingness and ability to learn quickly.
- Experience with VAN Votivate or other voter file software or willingness and ability to learn quickly.
- Experience with graphic design software or willingness and ability to learn.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation to attend in-person events.
- Preferred
- Bilingual Spanish/English.
- Experience placing programmatic and social media digital ads.
- Understanding of New Mexico social justice and political ecosystem.
SCHEDULE AND LOCATION
- The position is full time and hybrid. It will require staggered office hours in Albuquerque approximately 2-3 days weekly. Occasional event assistance in New Mexico during evenings and weekends will be required.
UNION AFFILIATION
- WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a nonmanagerial role eligible to join WFPs staff bargaining unit after six months of employment. WFPs union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board Workers United union.
$71400 - $94500 a year
The salary range for this role is $71400 - $94500 per year. The final salary for this role will be determined based on our Pay Scale which takes into consideration years of experience geographic location and final job description which may be adjusted based on the candidates skills and experience. The upper end of the salary range is reserved for individuals who significantly exceed the minimum qualifications and years of experience.
