MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR MAKING APPLICATIONS:
As a pre-requisite for making an application for the position of Assistant Administrator of Special Education interested persons must hold a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from an Accredited college or university and must hold a Special Education Administrators certificate issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates will be judged on the basis of qualifications for the position. The person whose
qualifications are considered to be best among the candidates shall be appointed to the position. Among the qualifications to be considered are: experience in Special Education; curriculum and program development; instructional supervision staff development; ability to work with teachers support personnel and administrators; knowledge of special education regulations and problems; educational background; professional activities and involvement; ability to express ones self and to articulate educational issues and concerns; personality and general demeanor.
Candidate must have a broad understanding of the instructional program of the school system and the special services that support it. Also the candidate must be adept at working with people to achieve common goals and should be able to interpret and initiate intricate directions and guidelines from federal and state regulations with regard to special education.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
- Serve (as necessary) as LEA of Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings in his/her assigned areas.
- Observe and consult with building principals and assist in the evaluation of teachers inthe Special Education
- Assist in disciplinary conferences at the central office level when the case involves anidentified special education student whose due process rights must be considered.
- Aid in transition and provide oversight of all out-of-district placements
- Aid in extended school year
- Review and approve all activities in the referral/placement process to ensure compliancewith state and federal
- Organize and develop ongoing in-service training and staff development for SchoolDepartment personnel in order to revise current practices relating to mainstreaming inclusion collaborative teaching provide staff development to all school department staff.
- Assist in the preparation of the Special Services budget assessment of staffing needsdevelopment of grants and state- mandated reports.
- Other appropriate administrative and supervisory duties as assigned by the Director ofSpecial
Salary Range $120000 to $128000.00
