About the Role

As a Junior Accountant at VargasAndrews you will be an integral part of our accounting delivery team supporting U.S.-based clients across the full accounting cycle. This is a hands-on execution-focused role where precision accountability and a genuine drive to improve are non-negotiable.

You will work alongside Senior Accountants and Fractional Controllers who will guide and develop you. If you are meticulous curious and motivated to work at the intersection of accounting and technology this role is for you.

Recruitment Process

We aim to complete the recruitment process within seven to ten calendar days. We are looking for professionals who demonstrate strong communication skills confidence innovation and leadership potential.

Initial Interview (3045 min)

A conversation to get to know you your background and your motivation for joining VargasAndrews.

Behavioral Interview (6090 min)

An in-depth discussion using real-life scenarios to assess communication problem-solving leadership and your approach to innovation.

Technical Interview (60 min)

Scope of Services

The following outlines the primary service areas and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Junior Accountant as defined in our RCFO engagement framework:

Service / Area

Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare and submit monthly invoices to the Clients customers no later than the agreed deadline.
  • Ensure that payments of the Clients customers are recorded at most 1 day from receipt of payment.
  • Consistent monitoring and follow-through of payments especially invoices more than 30 days past due.
  • Ensure that reimbursable expenses are billed on time.

Accounts Payable

  • Ensure all payments are properly approved and substantiated with supporting documents.
  • Ensure all Purchase Orders are duly approved by the Client.
  • Weekly monitoring of AP Aging and prompt reporting of any inconsistencies or new transactions to the Clients Financial Controller and/or other client representatives.

Bank Reconciliation

  • Daily checking of the bank statement and daily recording of bank transactions in the Clients accounting system.
  • Reconcile bank statement to book statement at most 2 days from the previous month-end.

General Accounts

  • Propose adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Explore the government portal and access the tax filing of US and Australian entities.

Financial Statement Closing Process

  • Ensure the completeness of accruals at most 3 days following the month to be closed.
  • Aid in preparing data to compute and present margin analysis per customer and per department/activity monthly.
  • Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts on or before the 2nd Monday of the following month.

Policies & Procedures

  • Design and implement processes and procedures to improve the accounting processes of the Client and its related entities.

Other Required Tasks

  • Other related tasks that may be assigned by the reporting manager SLT Chief Financial Officer and/or Financial Controller which will be communicated to the Contractor.

Essential Functions

50% Core accounting execution post and process journal entries update AR and issue invoices update AP and perform reconciliations prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports assist in financial statement preparation.

25% Data management and close support update financial data in databases assist Senior Accountants in monthly/yearly closings and assist with other accounting projects.

15% Other accounting tasks invoicing billing taxes and compliance under the guidance of the Senior Accountant.

10% Accounting process improvement tasks in coordination with the Senior Accountant and Fractional Controller.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Accounting (CPA is a plus)
  • Experience: 3 to 4 years of accounting work experience
  • Analytical mind with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills
  • Excellent report writing communication and computer application skills
  • Advanced competency in Microsoft Office and accounting software such as QuickBooks Xero and Excel
  • Critical thinker with high proficiency in mathematical reasoning
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Familiarity with AI tools or process automation is a plus
  • Must be amenable to working on a U.S. Pacific Time schedule (see Working Schedule section)

Service Fee & Benefits

$800 $1000 / month All-In Independent Contractor

Service-Break Credits (SBC) Up to 120 Hours/Year: Use your SBC for personal time rest days or unplanned emergencies. These are yours to use at your discretion because we believe rest is part of performing at your best.

U.S. Observance Day Credits 13 Days/Year: You earn SBC credits on 13 recognized U.S. observance days. This gives you a built-in breathing room throughout the year without eating into your regular credits.

Health Allowance (From Month 7): After your 6th month of continuous engagement you receive a monthly health allowance to support your personal wellness preventive care and peace of mind.

Dependent Health Allowance: After a period of continuous engagement you unlock an annual dependent wellness allowance because your familys wellbeing matters too.

Work From Anywhere in the Philippines: Fully remote. No commute. You choose where you work best whether thats your home a co-working space or anywhere in the Philippines with a reliable internet connection.

Working Schedule & Time Zone - Important: U.S. Client Alignment

Our clients are based in the United States. Our standard operating window is 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST) / Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). In practice the majority of our team currently works a shift of 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM Pacific Time allowing for focused mornings before live client hours begin. Working schedule is ultimately subject to client discretion. Some clients may require a full night shift alignment (Philippine Time). We want every candidate to enter with full awareness of this expectation.
