POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides academic intervention and support for underrepresented and diverse student populations within the Center for Multicultural Access & Success (CMAS). The role develops and coordinates recruitment and retention strategies through advising coaching and advocacy to support student success. The position meets with prospective international students as well as refugees/asylees and students enrolling on other visa statuses and their parents/sponsors. Responsibilities include processing international student admission documents in compliance with federal regulations; maintains student records and files. Provides academic advising and wraparound support services to CMAS (Center for Multicultural Access & Success) students. Works directly with F-1 visa students to ensure they are maintaining their visa status. Maintains an open and approachable manner and confidentiality. Serves as a DSO (Designated School Official) and functions as a back up to the Manager International Student Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide pre-admission advising outreach and support to all prospective CMAS students with a particular emphasis on F-1/M-1 international students. Communicate admissions requirements to prospective international students and their parent(s)/sponsor(s) through individual appointments phone calls Zoom/Microsoft Teams social media and/or e-mails. Follow up on leads collected.
2. Assist prospective refugee/asylee students or students enrolling on other visa statuses with questions they may have about applying to the college.
3. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) interacting with SEVIS SEVP and related government agencies. Provide accurate record keeping/updates related to immigration matters. Collaborate with the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and other DSO faculty and staff as needed. Advise F-1/M-1 international students concerning SEVP U.S. Department of State and USCIS (U.S. Customs and Immigration Services) processes and regulations.
4. Remain current with research and regulations that may affect the refugee asylee and other non-immigrant status students enrolled at JJC. Prepare reports on international/non-immigrant student populations as requested including monthly reports.
5. Assist the Manager International Student Services with reviewing and certifying international student admission documents including financial statements English proficiency and transcripts. Create initial I-20 documents.
6. Provide academic advising coaching and support for F-1/M-1 international students refugee and asylee students as well as those enrolled at JJC on other visa statuses such as H-1B J-1 etc. Refer students to appropriate services where needed.
7. Assist the Manager International Student Services with the planning and implementation of international student procedures within CMAS (Center for Multicultural Access and Success). This includes assisting with the implementation of office processes orientation presentations student onboarding and other activities related to international student assimilation.
8. Coordinate high school and JJC classroom visits including within the Department of Adult Education & Literacy to recruit and promote Center for Multicultural Access & Success (CMAS) wraparound support services.
9. Recruit prospective international refugee/asylee and students on other visa statuses within the U.S. by coordinating high school visits. Coordinate and assist with staffing virtual recruitment fairs. Some international travel for recruitment may also be necessary at the discretion of the Manager International Student Services.
10. Serve as a liaison to the English for Academic purposes program and monitor student enrollment and success. Report trends to the Manager International Student Services and make program recommendations.
11. Monitor and track the success of F-1 students refugees and students enrolled on other visa statuses and make recommendations to the Manager International Student Services for improvement. Collaborate with other departments to remove any barriers to success for this student population.
12. Prepare and present programming activities and workshops for F-1 students refugees/asylees and those on other visa statuses which assist with student acculturation & navigating college resources. Collaborate with other CMAS Pathway Coaches to provide student programs including campus visits/field trips and marquee cultural events such as Black History Month & National Arab American Heritage Month.
13. Work with the Marketing department and Manager International Student Services to create marketing and promotional materials.
14. Field incoming phone calls and route them as appropriate.
15. Serve on college committees as assigned.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelors degree.
2. Three (3) years of overall admissions and/or recruitment experience in higher education.
3. Knowledge of Department of Homeland Securitys SEVIS database system NAFSA Advisers Manual and USCIS (U.S. Customs & Immigration Services) regulations for F-1/M-1 students.
4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident as is required to carry the title of Designated School Official (DSO).
5. Strong personal computer and technology skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
6. Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
7. Excellent organizational and record keeping abilities.
8. Awareness of concerns of international students and cross-cultural sensitivity.
9. Effective interpersonal communication time and project management and organizational skills.
10. Knowledge of student ERP systems web-based software and social media platforms.
11. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Masters degree in International/Global Education or Leadership Higher Education/College Student Personnel Counseling Social Justice Social Sciences or other closely related field.
2. Two (2) years of international admissions experience or ESL recruitment/program management.
3. Knowledge and/or experience with Ellucian Colleague Workday CRM Recruit EAB Navigate software.
4. Previous experience as a DSO.
5. One year of academic advising experience.
6. Verbal and written communication proficiency in English and a second language.
7. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Normal office physical demands.
2. Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.
3. Ability to travel outside of the U.S. if necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Duties are performed indoors in the usual office environment.
2. Some weekend or early morning/late night hours may be required on occasion for events.
