The Role
This is not a traditional QA role. At Health Chain our QA engineers are domain experts and AI practitioners who use LLM-based tools and AI assistants to accelerate test design generate test data and reason about complex healthcare workflows. You will own quality across APIs FHIR services data pipelines and cloud infrastructure - with AI as your force multiplier.
If youre still doing purely manual regression testing this role will challenge you to evolve. If you already think in systems and use AI to amplify your output youll thrive here.
What Youll Do
- Lead AI-assisted test design - Use LLM-based tools to generate test scenarios review coverage gaps and automate test scaffolding across FHIR APIs and healthcare data workflows
- Own the Robot Framework automation suite - Design build and maintain keyword-driven and data-driven test libraries; enforce standards across the team
- Validate FHIR R4 and HL7 compliance - Deeply understand healthcare data standards and test for correctness interoperability and CMS-0057f compliance (Prior Authorization PDex CARIN BB)
- Drive integration and end-to-end testing - Across microservices HAPI FHIR servers Azure infrastructure and third-party payer integrations
- Embed in CI/CD pipelines - Write tests that run in GitLab CI monitor quality gates and block bad deployments before they reach staging
- Conduct performance and load testing - Using JMeter or k6 against FHIR endpoints under realistic payer-scale loads
- Validate data integrity - SQL queries FHIR resource validation and ETL pipeline verification for healthcare data transformations
- Act as QA subject matter expert - Guide developers on testability review pull requests for quality risk and define acceptance criteria with product owners
- Participate in sprint ceremonies - Sprint planning backlog refinement and retrospectives with a quality-first mindset
What You Bring Required
- 8 years in software QA/testing with at least 3 years in a healthcare domain (payer provider or health IT)
- Robot Framework expertise - Youve built and maintained production-grade automation suites not just run example scripts
- Healthcare standards fluency - FHIR R4 resource structures HL7 v2/v3 message formats CMS interoperability rules; you can read an IG and derive test cases from it
- AI tool proficiency - You actively use AI assistants to write tests generate test data and reason about edge cases; you know how to prompt effectively and verify AI output. Claude Code preferred.
- API testing mastery - Postman REST Assured or equivalent; you can inspect raw HTTP read OpenAPI specs and design contract tests
- SQL and data validation - Comfortable writing queries to validate backend state trace data lineage and catch transformation bugs
- CI/CD and cloud awareness - GitLab CI Azure DevOps Docker Kubernetes basics; you understand where your tests run and why pipeline placement matters
- JIRA and test management - Structured defect reporting traceability from requirement to test case sprint-level quality metrics
Nice to Have
- Experience with HAPI FHIR server internals
- Familiarity with CDS Hooks or SMART on FHIR
- Performance testing at scale (10k concurrent API calls)
- Python or Java scripting for custom test tooling
Why Health Chain
- Work at the intersection of AI and healthcare interoperability - problems that actually matter
- Small senior team where your decisions have real impact
- Modern stack: Azure Kubernetes HAPI FHIR GitLab CI AI-powered development tools
- Remote-first with async-friendly culture
