Job Summary:

The Clinical System Informaticist is a critical role within the Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement (QAPI)
Department at the Arizona State Hospital (ASH). This position serves as the primary liaison between clinical operations and information technology (IT) ensuring that the electronic health record (EHR) systems workflows and documentation standards effectively support safe efficient and high-quality patient care.

The role leads and supports clinical system design optimization and implementation efforts by partnering with interdisciplinary stakeholders including Nursing Medical Staff Executive Leadership IT Training & Education Social Work Psychology and Compliance. The Clinical System Informaticist is responsible for requirements gathering workflow analysis system configuration and user-centered design to enhance EHR functionality (i.e. Avatar) reduce inefficiencies and align with regulatory and patient safety standards.

Key responsibilities include facilitating Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions developing workflow diagrams and training materials supporting system testing and implementation and promoting adoption through education rounding and end-user support. The role also collaborates with analytics teams to advance data-driven decision-making and performance improvement initiatives.

This position plays a vital role in bridging clinical practice with technology driving continuous improvement strengthening documentation integrity and ensuring that health information systems enable optimal patient outcomes and operational excellence.

Job Duties:

- Promotes understanding and effective use of technology specifically Avatar the Hospitals EHR through high-visibility rounding user group support coaching end users and partnering with T&;E for training opportunities. Participates in solution evaluation tracks audits monitors and implements action plans.

-Evaluates current workflow processes within the EHR and evaluates alternative solutions to reduce redundancy and increase efficiency in clinical documentation while upholding regulatory standards.

-Performs educator functions. Provides clinical application training in collaboration with T&;E ensuring end users have the knowledge and skills to properly navigate and document in the EHR. Implements communication and education plans in conjunction with clinical educators and leadership for current staff and new hires to ensure changes to the EHR are implemented.

-Maintains ongoing user communication and support to ensure user competency and obtain information on usage of the system and workflow concerns through established regular scheduled rounding. Collaborates with end-users to help define issues and enhancement opportunities within the EHR. Provider project support in conjunction with project leadership for development and support of new and existing IT clinical applications.

-Collaborates with IT teams and leaders in EHR-related projects. Works with IT teams on requirements gathering development testing training and training.

-Performs Advocate functions. Operational collaboration with users service area leadership and IT field services to resolve conflicts between workflow and the EHR. Supports staff in the use of existing technology in a manner that promotes maintenance of patient safety and confidentiality and supports facility-specific and system-wide processes.

-Joins weekly NetSmart/Avatar meetings to discuss barriers to clinical workflows project updates and user functions to improve quality care and patient safety.

-This position must interact with and support all levels of end users throughout the facility including treatment teams (i.e. BHTs RN rehab social work psychology and providers) as well as administrative and technical staff (i.e. Quality Compliance IT Executives Department leaders etc.) for the purpose of integrating services improving patient care ensuring effective communication and facilitating decision-making in clinical practice.

-Other duties as assigned as related to the position (typically 5% - 10%)

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Strong understanding of clinical workflows patient safety standards and healthcare regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of EHR Systems and healthcare data standards.
- Knowledge of strategic and operational planning processes within healthcare organizations.
- Demonstrates expertise in bridging the Hospitals clinical function with the available IT solutions and change management processes.
- Staff training skill evaluation and creating and deploying large-scale training.
- Requirements gathering gap analysis and partnerships between clinical teams and IT.

Skill in:
- Advanced analytical and quantitative reasoning skills to interpret and synthesize complex clinical operational and performance data.
- Project management skills to plan coordinate and execute multiple clinical workflow initiatives simultaneously while meeting deadlines and performance goals.

Selective Preference(s):

Masters Degree in Clinical or Health Informatics Healthcare Administration Data Science Nursing Leadership or similar field. Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar/related field.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

- Must possess a valid and current RN license to practice in Arizona.
-Associate degree in Nursing with a current and active RN license. Bachelors Degree in Nursing Social Work Psychology or another clinically related field. Masters Degree preferred in Clinical Informatics Data Analytics Computer Science Information Systems or similar. 3-5 years of applied hospital experience or equivalent coursework and may substitute for 1 year of experience.
