Data Science BI analyst Intern

The opportunity

Nile Fresh (Pty) Ltd is an innovative e-commerce platform working to improve how food is traded across Africa. We use technology data and smart operational tools to connect producers to markets more efficiently helping farmers earn more while making fresh food more accessible and affordable.

Role Description

We are looking for a Data Science / BI analyst intern to join the team over the June/July holiday period. This role is well suited to a student or recent graduate who enjoys working with data solving practical business problems and building simple tools that make day-to-day operations more efficient.
The internship will focus on two broad areas:

• Supporting BI and reporting work and
• helping build lightweight internal tools and workflows for operational teams

This includes using modern tools to help design and build simple internal web-based applications that can be used for a range of operational tasks and communication with the central team.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Data Scientist and be fully integrated into Niles tech team gaining first-hand exposure to how technology data tools and internal products are developed in a fast-moving startup environment. This is a practical hands-on internship with real business exposure and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to projects with direct operational value.

In this role you may

• Support the team with reporting dashboards and ad hoc analysis
• Help clean organise and explore operational data
• Assist in building or improving internal BI reports and data views
• Help design and build lightweight internal tools or web apps for operational use
• Work on practical process-improvement projects with direct business value
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical team members to understand business needs
• Present findings or progress clearly and simply

The ideal candidate

• Is studying toward or has recently completed a degree in Data Science Engineering Computer Science Statistics or a related field
• Is comfortable working with data in Excel SQL Python or similar tools
• Has an interest in BI analytics operations or product thinking
• Is curious proactive and eager to learn
• Can work independently and communicate clearly
• Enjoys solving practical problems in a simple structured way
