The Burlington Technical Center (BTC) seeks a certified FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanic to serve as a contracted instructor during the 2026-2027 (August-June) school year to deliver a FAA A&P General curriculum.
This position will provide intensive classroom and hands-on technical instruction aligned to FAA Part 147 subject areas and will support adult and post-secondary aviation maintenance students in completing foundational coursework required for FAA certification addition to General instruction the instructor will be required to teach Turbine Engine Theory as well as Welding.
The instructor will work in collaboration with BTC aviation faculty and staff to ensure instruction meets FAA standards support student success and maintain a safe compliant training environment. The role may include lesson preparation skills-based lab oversight student assessment and coordination of instructional materials and equipment.
Essential Functions
- Deliver accelerated instruction in FAA A&P General curriculum content in alignment with Part 147 training requirements.
- Provide classroom-based teaching in aviation maintenance foundational topics such as basic electricity tools materials regulations physics and maintenance practices.
- Facilitate hands-on learning and lab-based skill development with adult and post-secondary aviation students.
- Maintain a safe instructional environment ensuring compliance with BTC safety procedures and aviation industry standards.
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans and instructional pacing appropriate for a compressed summer schedule.
- Assess student learning through quizzes practical demonstrations and progress monitoring.
- Support students in preparation for FAA written oral and practical expectations related to the General exam content.
- Collaborate with BTC aviation program leadership to align instruction with the A&P sequence and program goals.
- Assist with organization and appropriate use of tools equipment and training materials.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student participation and instructional activities as required by BTC and FAA-aligned expectations.
Qualifications
Required
- Hold a Vermont Teaching License
- Prior teaching coaching mentoring or workforce training experience preferred
- Experience working with adult learners or accelerated technical training models preferred
- Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification
- Recent professional experience as a practicing A&P mechanic
- Experience working in aviation maintenance environments (general aviation commercial military or industrial aviation)
- Eligibility to work in the United States

Compensation / Terms
- Hourly contracted position (non-exempt; eligible for overtime)
- No benefits associated with this position
