The Network Field Engineer provides handson onsite support for network delivery activities assisting project and engineering teams with physical deployments installations and operational tasks. This role supports project delivery across switching wireless and SDWAN environments where onsite presence is required with flexibility to scale capacity based on project volume and timelines.
Responsibilities
Onsite Network Support
Perform onsite activities in support of network delivery projects including:
Switch and access point installations and replacements
Cabling coordination and verification
Rack stack and powerup of network equipment
Physical site readiness checks
Wireless refresh and SSID rollout projects
Switch refresh programmes
SDWAN site deployments and migrations
Deployment & Implementation Assistance
Support Senior Engineers and Network Delivery Engineers during:
Site builds and cutovers
Planned migrations and refresh activities
Testing and validation phases
Execute predefined installation and configuration tasks under guidance.
Assist with postdeployment verification and issue identification.
Incident & Operational Support
Provide onsite assistance for network incidents where remote resolution is not possible.
Support troubleshooting by performing physical checks and remediation tasks.
Liaise with onsite stakeholders vendors and service providers as required.
Documentation & Reporting
Capture and update onsite implementation details including:
Equipment serial numbers
Port mappings
Updated site diagrams or checklists
Provide clear feedback to delivery and operations teams following onsite work.
Flexibility & Demand Support
Support fluctuating project demand and timelines.
Travel to regional or remote sites as required.
Provide coverage during peak delivery periods or largescale rollout programmes.
Requirements
Skills
Network hardware installation (switches access points WAN devices)
Basic switching and wireless concepts
Structured cabling environments
Ability to follow standard build installation and safety procedures.
Qualifications
Matric and a Diploma certificate or equivalent experience in IT or Networking.
CCNA (advantageous)
Valid drivers licence
