Client Overview

The client is seeking a Senior Network Support Engineer / Administrator (Data) to join its Network Operations team. The organisation operates at national scale supporting critical infrastructure across 189 sites and serving over 7000 users. This role will contribute to maintaining enhancing and securing enterprise network environments while supporting ongoing transformation initiatives including SD-WAN SASE and Zero Trust architectures..

Role Overview:

The successful candidate will act as a senior technical resource within the Network Operations team providing expertise in network design implementation monitoring and support. The role involves leading network-related projects ensuring high availability and security of network services and contributing to architecture and compliance initiatives (e.g. NIS2 ISO 27001). The resource will also mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and secure solutions.

The client wishes to procure the services of a senior network support engineer to augment and work alongside the existing Network Operations team.

The Network Operations team has responsibility for:

WAN LAN Wifi connectivity at 189 sites nationwide

Network monitoring and management

Network design and configuration

Network equipment installations

Network access control TACACS RADIUS 802.1x MAC Authentication

DHCP

DNS

IP address management

The duties of the role are broadly outlined below:

Act as a technical lead on network projects migrations and infrastructure improvements.

Conduct research and provide advice on new solutions and best practice.

Contribute to network architecture design standards and documentation for the Department across DC/Cloud/Campus/WAN and Security.

Collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver secure scalable solutions.

Provide advanced support for network incidents service interruptions and performance issues.

Monitor network health capacity and performance using enterprise monitoring tools.

Configure maintain and optimise network infrastructure to ensure high availability security and peak performance across all environments.

Develop and maintain operational procedures driving improvements and automation where possible.

Implement and maintain network security controls including TACACS RADIUS ACLs segmentation.

Support compliance with NIS2 through implementation of cybersecurity controls.

Support compliance with ISO 27001 through documentation and audit readiness.

Provide guidance coaching and technical escalation support to junior engineers.

Contribute to knowledge base development and internal training sessions.

Promote best practices in network engineering documentation and operational discipline.

The candidate must also have a good understanding of SD-WAN SASE and zero trust principles to support the Departments long-term network and security goals.

Certifications (One Required)

It is a mandatory requirement that the Resource proposed hold one of the following qualifications or equivalents:

An NFQ level 8 (or equivalent) qualification in Computer Science

CCNP

ACCP Aruba Certified ClearPass Professional)

English Language Proficiency (MANDATORY):

Native English speaker OR

CEFR C2 Proficiency/Mastery (or equivalent)

Provision of advanced technical expertise in architecture design implementation and support for enterprise network across WAN LAN and Wi-Fi connectivity in 189 nationwide sites within excess of 7000 users.

Timely diagnosis and resolution of network incidents outages and performance issues.

Monthly incident and problem-management reports including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

Continuous monitoring of network health capacity and performance using enterprise monitoring tools.

Design and implementation of network configurations upgrades and infrastructure improvements.

Contribution to network architecture development including standards patterns and reference designs.

Support for SD-WAN SASE and Zero Trust adoption through design input and operational readiness activities.

Support for NIS2 compliance through implementation of required cybersecurity controls and risk-mitigation measures.

Support for ISO 27001 compliance through documentation evidence gathering and audit preparation.

Maintenance of accurate and up-to-date documentation for DHCP DNS IP address management and network topology.

Development maintenance and continuous improvement of operational procedures and runbooks.

Delivery of automation initiatives to improve efficiency reduce manual effort and enhance reliability.

Quarterly review and optimisation of network configurations and performance baselines.

Provision of technical guidance mentoring and escalation support to junior engineers.

Delivery of internal training sessions on network technologies tools and best practices.

Contribution of new articles troubleshooting guides and documentation to the internal knowledge base.

Research and evaluation of emerging technologies tools and best practices relevant to enterprise networking.

Recommendations and technical reports on SD-WAN SASE. Zero Trust and other strategic initiatives.

Participation in cross-functional project teams to deliver secure scalable and future-ready solutions.

Performance and activity reports summarising key tasks incidents improvements and risks.

Project-specific deliverables such as design documents migration plans test plans and post-implementation reports.

Regular updates to stakeholders on network status risks and improvement opportunities.
