KBR Consulting is seeking a Principal Consultant with Carbon Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) experience to join our international consulting organisation. The successful candidate will be a senior technical leader providing highvalue advisory and engineering input across the CCUS project lifecycle and supporting business development activities aligned with the energy transition.
Reporting to the KBR Consulting International leadership team the Principal Consultant will play a key role in delivering technically robust commercially informed consulting assignments for clients across the energy industrial and decarbonisation sectors. Assignments typically range from strategy and feasibility through concept development PreFEED and FEED as well as technical due diligence and lenders technical advisor engagements.
As a more experienced individual in the team the Principal Consultant performs their own work in terms of collecting information developing deliverables analysing trends and key findings and preparing Word or PowerPoint Reports.
Recognizing their project management responsibilities the Principal Consultant should have excellent organizational skills and be good at communicating and guiding others. They will typically manage and/or work on a few projects at one time thereby necessitating excellent ability to multi-task work without supervision exercise good judgment and communicate with colleagues within the wider KBR organisation.
Additionally the Principal Consultant will support the groups overall sales effort through proposal/tender preparation contract negotiation and other client interfacing activities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
- Act as a technical authority on CCUS-related studies and projects including capture technologies CO₂ compression and conditioning/purification transport (pipeline and shipping) and storage concepts.
- Lead or provide senior technical oversight for:
- Feasibility concept and PreFEED studies.
- Technical and economic evaluations.
- Technology assessment and selection.
- CO₂ value chain integration.
- Develop and review highquality technical deliverables including reports presentations models and decision support materials.
- Apply engineering judgement and experience to identify risks opportunities and cost or performance drivers.
Client Engagement & Advisory
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients communicating effectively at both technical and executive levels.
- Translate complex engineering topics into clear decisionready business insights.
- Support client discussions on decarbonisation strategies CCUS deployment pathways and investment readiness.
Business Development & Market Support
- Support KBR Consultings CCUS and energy transition growth strategy through:
- Proposal preparation;
- Technical inputs to bids and presentations; and
- Client meetings and technical workshops.
- Contribute to thought leadership market positioning and internal capability development within CCUS and broader energy transition services.
Team & Knowledge Leadership
- Mentor and guide lessexperienced engineers and consultants.
- Contribute to the development of internal methodologies tools and best practices.
- Collaborate across KBRs wider global organisation integrating multidiscipline expertise where appropriate.
- Prepare and deliver conference papers at international events.
- Support the growth of the business.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate depth of experience and knowledge in several of the following services areas:
- Carbon capture & sequestration market knowledge.
- Industry competitiveness/awareness.
- Facility operations.
- Process design understanding and modelling.
- Feasibility and configuration studies to determine the viability of CCUS projects.
- Understanding of technical safety for CCUS applications and applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of vendors/licensor technologies.
- Process operations and improvements.
- Project execution strategies.
- Direct sales experience.
- Client relationships in EMEA region.
Essential skills:
- Degree (BEng / MEng or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering Process Engineering or a related discipline.
- A relevant number of years experience in engineering consultancy project development or operating company roles.
- Demonstrable experience in carbon capture and/or CO₂ infrastructure projects including:
- Postcombustion precombustion or oxyfuel capture (or equivalent industrial capture processes);
- CO₂ compression liquefaction and transport systems;
- CO2 purification / conditioning systems including dehydration sacrificial adsorbents membranes etc.; and
- Storage site concepts injection facilities or CO₂ networks (working knowledge).
- Strong experience supporting feasibility concept and Pre-FEED studies.
- Experience in energy transition projects beyond CCUS (e.g. hydrogen lowcarbon fuels industrial decarbonisation).
- Prior involvement in technical due diligence or lenders engineer roles.
- Proven ability to work independently manage multiple assignments and deliver highquality outputs to tight schedules. Must be able to travel on short notice on short trips including overnight stay for up to approximately 30% of the time.
- Principal Consultants will have existing client relationships in their respective areas of expertise.
The candidate must demonstrate competence in the following:
- Able to work within a sell-do model.
- Strong self-starter and motivated to succeed.
- Practical front-end consulting including scoping selling and delivery.
- Excellent communication skills including ability to produce concise reports and presentations appropriate for all levels.
- Confidence to work at all levels of a client organisation (Board to Technician).
- Desire to expand role and be adaptable to clients needs.
- Contribute to preparation of proposals execution plans and budgets.
- Identify new opportunities and leads.
- Supports a continuous improvement culture and identifies gaps develops work processes tools and methodologies to drive productivity and growth.
Other Functions
- Based in Leatherhead.
- Primary degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Knowledge of process simulation (e.g. using Hysys Unism Promax etc.) is a plus.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Positive and flexible attitude.
- Excellent verbal communication skills for interacting with clients good cultural awareness.
- Diplomatic in meeting and working with people (internally and externally).
- Flexible and willing to work extra hours as necessary to accommodate occasional work load peaks.
- Work experience with an industry company licensor or technical consultancy is a major plus.
- Fluent English additional languages are a plus.
- Must be able to travel within EMEA region on short trips including overnight stay for up to approximately 30% of the time.

KBR Consulting through the incorporation of KBRs wholly owned subsidiary Granherne draws on a heritage of over thirty five years specialising in the front end phases of oil & gas field refinery and petrochemical development projects from pre-feasibility through feasibility and pre-FEED up to and including preliminary FEED addition we undertake small FEEDs as well as providing specialist consultancy to later through to phases of projects including debottlenecking studies brownfield modifications production optimisation operations an decommissioning.
Our experience covers all forms of oil and gas field developments including onshore and offshore production and gathering facilities for greenfield brownfield and refinery rehabilitation projects. Cost estimation and planning are both a regular feature of our studies and they are often bespoke to specific client addition to cost estimating and project planning our capability covers the spectrum of all the front end technical disciplines including risk and safety analysis and value engineering. With access to the entire KBR organisation globally we are able to draw on a great depth of technical capability and experience including that of legacy companies Granherne GVA and Energo and also ensure that our projects take full advantage of the execution experience obtained in the later phases of projects.
Over the years KBR has provided support for some of the largest industry capital investments in modern times. Moreover KBR has acted as lenders advisor on well over 200 projects for a broad range of clients and financial institutions across many sectors including upstream and downstream oil and gas speciality chemicals mining biofuels pulp and paper power and general infrastructure.
