SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Wellness teacher (Physical Education & Health) to join our community. Should have experience planning implementing and adapting curriculum based on the National Health and Physical Education Standards. Is able to create a positive environment for student learning and involvement embracing cultural diversity and multiple perspectives. Ensures opportunities for students to be thoughtful and contributing members of our school and the greater community by using creativity and critical thinking skills. Holds a strong belief that all students are capable of achieving and is able to provide multiple access points scaffolding and ongoing feedback within their instruction for a wide range of learners. Has a collegial spirit that supports the team model through collaboration and professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our school community. Fully committed to continuous learning improving reflecting and working with students staff and families to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSILBILITES:
The teacher will be responsible for:
- Promotes school health/wellness health awareness activities (both curricular and extracurricular) for students staff and parents.
- Create engaging lessons and activities as part of a skills-based comprehensive health education program that favors learning and personal growth that leads to health literacy.
- establish positive relationships with students
- Allow opportunities for students to develop learn practice and become proficient in skills attitudes and knowledge needed to become health literate.
- Develop skills-based performance assessments that gauge student growth around knowledge and skill development.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students
- Analyzes demonstrates and explains basic skills knowledge and strategies of formal sports games rhythms and fundamentals of body movement
- Develop motor skills physical development and proper exercise and eating habits amount students.
- Maintain a safe positive learning environment that meets the needs of all learners.
- Shows understanding of and sensitivity to different families home language culture and values.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid MA licenses in Health/Family and Consumer Science (all levels) required
- Physical Education (5-12) license required
- Practicum or teaching experience working in Health Education and/or Physical Education is preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish and/or Portuguese) a plus.
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committees policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.
WORK YEAR:
- 10 months 183 days. 3 Personal days 13 sick days

While performing duties of this job the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. calculator copy machine and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
