About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Managing Attorney Staff Counsel General & Auto Liability to lead the launch and ongoing success of a new Florida-based office in Tampa.
This is a high-impact leadership role offering the opportunity to build and shape a legal function from the ground up. You will oversee litigation strategy team development and operational excellence while remaining hands-on with complex cases.
The position is ideal for a seasoned litigation professional who thrives in a leadership capacity enjoys building teams and wants to directly influence legal outcomes and business performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead mentor and manage a team of trial attorneys paralegals and legal support staff to ensure high performance and productivity.
Launch and manage the Florida Staff Counsel office including staffing workflow design and operational processes.
Oversee all phases of litigation including intake strategy pleadings discovery depositions motion practice trial and post-trial activities.
Maintain a reduced caseload of moderately complex matters and lead key depositions and settlement discussions as needed.
Ensure optimal litigation outcomes through strategic oversight and early resolution where appropriate.
Evaluate staffing needs and maintain appropriate service and litigation management standards.
Drive attorney performance trial readiness and professional development.
Develop and enhance litigation standards file management protocols and team workflows.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time resolution rates trial outcomes and litigation costs.
Ensure compliance with ethical regulatory and corporate governance requirements.
Implement reporting systems quality control measures and performance feedback processes.
Partner closely with Claims to align on litigation strategy escalation and settlement objectives.
Provide guidance on settlement strategy and ensure adherence to internal litigation management standards.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will bring:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
Active license and good standing with the Florida Bar.
Minimum 10 years of civil litigation experience in auto and general liability defense including significant first-chair trial experience.
At least 3 years of leadership experience.
Proven experience establishing and leading a staff counsel office within an insurance environment in Florida.
Strong expertise in Florida civil procedure insurance law and defense strategy.
Experience handling bodily injury litigation.
Demonstrated ability to manage litigation budgets and align legal strategies with business goals.
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills with strong negotiation and courtroom presence.
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all organizational levels.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office legal research platforms case management systems and workflow tools.
