POSITION SUMMARY

Culinary Institute of AmericaAdjunctFaculty members are responsible for instructing students in a designated course of study with a high standard of responsibilities of theAdjunct Facultyin theFood Business Schoolincludepreparing instructional materialsand using the Learning Management System (LMS)forinstructingand evaluating members also maintain office hoursandassist students who are having difficulty with their studieswhile followingcollege policies.

HOSP-210: Introduction to Hospitality and Customer Service - 1.5 credits

This course introduces students to the art of food and beverage service. Students will learn about equipment and use of equipment related to several styles of service proper dress and sanitation organization and responsibilities within the dining room. They also receive an introduction to the Micros point of sale system used in all of the public restaurants at The Culinary Institute of America. The course provides students with a quality level of understanding and skill with respect to service techniques effective merchandising guest relations and sales management.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparesdaily lesson plans for classes andteachesclasses as requested and in a manner consistent with the philosophy policies and guidelines of theInstitute. Utilize the established syllabus and textbook(s) for the coursesbeing taught to prepare all lesson plans.
  • Worksindividually as an informal facultyadvisor for students who may need extra helphave questions about course information want career guidance or need assistance in their studies.
  • Providesregular and constructive feedback to students in an objective consistent and timely manner; evaluatesand documentsstudent performance using established methods and criteria; filescourse grades consistently and without prejudicein the specific timeframe allowed.
  • Evaluatesand documentsstudent performance using established methods and criteria.
  • Compilesandpostsinstructional materialsin accordance with the College Catalog descriptions course syllabi and outlinesand class schedules as assigned. This may include compiling and presenting instructional material in an online environment and designing the online course environment to meet the learning objectives for the course.
  • Compiles and submitsassignedassessment datafor review.
  • Maintainsandregularly submitsrecordof student attendance student progress and grades as well as records of online student participation during online classes.
  • Actively uses CIACares toreportexcessive absences poor course performance praises and kudos as well as process failures due to absences.
  • Maintainsclassroomdiscipline and order during instructional activities.
  • Enforcessanitation principles (appropriate toparticular teachingassignment) attendance policies Institutes Professionalism Uniform and Hygiene Policy and other academic policies.
  • Assumesresponsibility for equipment and facilities of the classroom if applicable.
  • Any and allother duties as assigned.

                      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

                      Education:

                      • Masters Degreein related fieldorBachelorsdegree in Hospitalityor related area andminimum ofsix (6) to eight (8)years of work experience in the related topic area.

                      Experience:

                      • Minimum of three(3) to five (5) years of work experience in the related topic area.

                      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

                      • PhD ina related field.
                      • Minimum of one (1) year college level teaching experience.
                      • Previous experience with Moodle or similar education software.

                      REQUIRED SKILLS

                      • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive student issues with confidentiality and discretion.
                      • Excellent written verbal communication and presentation skills.
                      • Strong computer experience whichmust include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite products i.e. Word Excel PowerPoint.
                      • Strong customer service skills.
                      • Exceptional organizational skills.
                      • Ability to work independently or in a teamenvironment andmaintain collaborative relationships with all members of faculty and administration.
                      • Professionaland welcoming presence in front ofstudentsguestsand employees.

                      WORKING CONDITIONS

                      • Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
                      • Regular workmayrequire a great deal of sitting and/orstanding for extended periods.
