About the Role
The Chief Underwriting Officer (Senior Vice President Underwriting) is responsible for leading underwriting strategy across Treaty Facultative Lloyds and MGA retrocession portfolios. The role drives portfolio performance governance and growth while supporting the expansion of Re-Takaful capabilities across new markets and territories. This role is open to Malaysian nationals only.
Key Responsibilities
1. Underwriting Strategy & Governance
- Define and execute underwriting strategies aligned to business objectives
- Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines risk frameworks and governance standards
- Maintain oversight of technical underwriting decisions across all lines
2. Portfolio Management
- Manage portfolio composition to optimise profitability and risk balance
- Develop and review performance analytics and reporting frameworks
- Drive corrective actions based on portfolio performance insights
3. Operations & Analytics
- Oversee underwriting operations contract booking and receivables management
- Ensure compliance with ISLAs governance protocols and risk registers
- Enhance underwriting through data dashboards and technology solutions
4. Business Development & Market Engagement
- Lead marketing client servicing and product development initiatives
- Expand business across new territories and Re-Takaful opportunities
- Represent the organisation at international industry forums
5. Financial & Performance Management
- Deliver underwriting performance against budget and business targets
- Monitor profitability loss ratios and operational efficiency
- Align underwriting activity with strategic growth objectives
6. Leadership & People Management
- Lead mentor and develop a high-performing underwriting team
- Strengthen capabilities in line with the Underwriting Competency Framework
- Drive a culture of accountability collaboration and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7 years experience within insurance/reinsurance underwriting
- Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science Insurance Finance or related field
- Professional qualifications such as ACII FCII AMII CPCU or equivalent
- Strong expertise in underwriting pricing portfolio management and reinsurance principles
- Proven leadership capability with strategic vision and decision-making strength
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
