Job Summary

We are working closely alongside a local authority in Brentwood to assist with the appointment of a GI Officer on a 3-months contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 14.50- 18.38 per hour

Summary:

The GI (Geographical Information) Officer plays a pivotal role in managing and advancing Brentwood Borough Councils spatial data infrastructure. You will be responsible for the end-to-end maintenance development and deployment of GIS systems ensuring that geographical data remains a core asset for decision-making across the authority.A significant portion of this role involves high-level data integrity acting as a primary liaison for the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement (PSMA) and working closely with the LLPG (Local Land and Property Gazetteer) Custodian. You will bridge the gap between complex IT infrastructure and front-end user support ensuring that spatial data is accurate accessible and integrated into wider corporate IT initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the maintenance development and deployment of the Councils GI Infrastructure and associated systems.
  • Manage Council compliance with the PSMA serving as a Primary Contact Officer for geospatial licensing and standards.
  • Coordinate with Corporate IT projects to ensure Modernising Government initiatives fully integrate GIS and LLPG/LSG (Local Land and Property/Street Gazetteer) functionality.
  • Support the LLPG Custodian by updating and maintaining the Gazetteer Management System (GMS) for business applications (e.g. IDOX Uniform).
  • Provide a dedicated helpdesk facility for GI applications addressing user queries and technical issues.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Geography Computer Science or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proficiency in GIS software suites (e.g. Esri ArcGIS QGIS or MapInfo) and Gazetteer management tools (e.g. IDOX Uniform).

Essentials:

  • Proven experience in managing and maintaining corporate GIS systems within a local government or public sector environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Gazetteer Management Systems (GMS) and integrating spatial data with back-office business applications.
  • Deep understanding of the PSMA (Public Sector Geospatial Agreement) and national addressing standards (BS7666).
