SUMMARY:

As a member of the Student Career Preparedness office within the broader Student Success Center the Coordinator of Student Internships supports the development coordination and expansion of experiential learning opportunities that strengthen student retention persistence and career readiness. This role assists with strengthening employer connections preparing students for internship readiness and supporting university-wide initiatives that advance students engagement in High-Impact Practices (HIPs)particularly internships project-based learning and other forms of work-based experience.

To accomplish these goals the Internship Coordinator establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employers department staff students faculty and alumni ensuring alignment and collaboration across the experiential learning ecosystem. Additionally this role will assist in developing processes to track and assess internship engagement across campus contributing to data-informed decision-making around student support opportunities.

The Internship Coordinator plays a key role in supporting East Texas A&M Universitys Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and Student Success initiatives related to career readiness and experiential learning. Through collaborative outreach student support and coordination of internship processes this position helps ensure students gain meaningful opportunities that connect academic learning to practical real-world experiences.

This is a grant-funded position. The anticipated duration of funding is a minimum of two and a half (2.5) years aligned with the grant timeline. Continued employment is contingent upon renewed grant funding or restricted funds.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Internship Program Coordination 40%

  • Assist in coordinating semester-based internship initiatives across academic colleges.
  • Support High-Impact Practices by ensuring internship postings and experiential opportunities are updated in Handshake.
  • Help students navigate internship searches applications and preparation steps with an emphasis on learning outcomes tied to real-world application.
  • Assist with planning and executing Career & Internship Fairs employer panels and networking events that promote meaningful employer-student engagement.
  • Partner with staff faculty and organizations to ensure students are informed about and are applying to opportunities.

2. Employer Engagement & Partnership Support 25%

  • Conduct outreach to local regional and national employers to cultivate internship opportunities.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Employer Engagement with communication scheduling employer visits and coordinating campus engagement activities.
  • Maintain accurate employer contact records and interaction notes in Handshake or related systems.

3. Student Coaching & Career Readiness Support 20%

  • Provide guidance to students on resumes internship search strategies professional communication and workplace expectations.
  • Support internship preparation workshopsincluding resume labs interview prep sessions and orientation programmingthat reinforce High-Impact Practice learning outcomes.
  • Engage in targeted outreach to Title III priority populations including first-generation and academically at-risk students.
  • Support cross-campus collaborations with Advising Student Transitions & Support (STS) Money Management Center (MMC) Graduate School Athletics Honors and academic colleges.
  • Represent Student Career Preparedness at campus events such as Orientations.
  • Assist students in identifying experiential opportunities that align with their career goals and academic focus.

4. Data Compliance & Reporting 15%

  • Track internship postings student applications placements employer engagement and student outcomes.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly reporting required by the Title III program Student Success Center and Provosts Office.
  • Maintain student participation records in systems such as Navigate360 Handshake Suitable or other approved tracking tools.
  • Support assessment efforts measuring increases in internship participation experiential learning engagement and student career readiness competencies aligned with High-Impact Practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: At least two years of related experience ideally in career services program development public speaking or student engagement. Proficiency in word processing spreadsheet applications and presentation software is required.
  • Ability to: Leverage artificial intelligence (AI) fluently in work including the ability to use generative AI tools to enhance efficiency communication and student and employer support. Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Google Workspace and willingness to learn Handshake Navigate360 Laserfiche and other platforms.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: None.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Other Requirements: Comfort with evening and flexible scheduling to meet student availability.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters degree in Business Administration Higher Education Administration Public Administration Workforce Development or a related major from an accredited institution.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in corporate or higher education program administration career services employer relations or related areas (including student employment or internship experience).
  • Knowledge of career development experiential learning High-Impact Practices or employer recruiting processes.
  • Experience working with first-generation students or similar student populations.
  • Familiarity with Handshake or career services management systems.
  • Experience in event planning and coordination.
