Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry in Madison WI is seeking to recruit a new tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor level.

The Department of Psychiatry
has identified stress and resilience sleep and plasticityand brain development as critical areas in which to promote research that will bring major advances tocurrent knowledge about the origins and early phases of many mental health disorders.

Research can be at any level including areas relevant to genetics molecular neurocircuit based approaches or psychopharmacology. The UW Department of Psychiatry along with the Health Emotions Research Institute (HERI) has strong research programs with outstanding facilities including a 3T MRI housed in the Lane Neuroimaging Laboratory and the Wisconsin Institute for Sleep and Consciousness both located in the Department. UWSMPH along with the entire UW is a leader in translational biomedical research and offers many opportunities for collaboration with other departments.

Key university resources to support research in mental health disorders include the Health Emotions Research Institute (HERI) a world-class center with state-of-the-art capabilities for highfield high-resolution imaging (Lane Neuroimaging Laboratory); the UW National Primate Center and strong collaborative relationships with faculty in world-renowned research departments and centers such as the Waisman Center; Wisconsin Institute for Sleep and Consciousness the Departments of Psychology Neuroscience Pediatrics and Computer Sciences and Engineering; and the Center for Healthy Minds at UW.

The successful applicant will also participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Additional information:

  • This position is full or part-time 50%-100%

  • This position requires work to be completed onsite at a designated campus work location.

  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

  • Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles: Assistant Professor Associate Professor Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Position may have a blend of clinical teaching and research activities based on candidate interest and skills of the faculty member

  • Responsibilities will include didactic and clinical teaching of undergraduate and graduate students fellows residents medical students and other health care trainees.

  • Participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Negotiable 12 month

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record of successful research programs in the area of neurobiology and psychiatry appropriate to their career stage.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on Tenure Track candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the Tenure Track.

Education:

MD or DO and/or PhD required.
