Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports water treatment and distribution operations by performing monthly meter readings for approximately 2300 service connections and assisting with routine plant and system maintenance. The role involves operating utility vehicles and equipment installing and repairing water meters maintaining records and supporting treatment processes through hands-on operational and maintenance tasks.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Safely and accurately perform monthly meter reading for approximately 2300 service connections within our service area. This will require the operation of a utility vehicle on and off-road.
  • Maintain shop inventory operate machinery complete daily work orders and install and repair water meters.
  • Perform general landscaping/maintenance tasks within the plant sites office and distribution system.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment; assist in delivery storage and transfer of chlorine.
  • Under direction operate maintain and inspect all treatment process equipment perform/assist in repairs and report faulty equipment.
  • Operate various hand and power tools and test instruments.
  • Assist in routine plant operational duties and learn the practices procedures safety practices techniques regulations and laws relating to water treatment and distribution by participating in on-the-job training.
  • Perform record keeping functions such as logging plant operation test results maintenance work performed and unusual operating conditions.
  • Perform routine operational duties and learn to perform more complex or critical assignments.
  • Make necessary adjustments to chlorinators pumps and other operational equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The team member in this role will:
    • Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.
    • Support and contribute towards team goals and objectives.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • General knowledge of safety practices and procedures as they apply to water treatment facilities distribution systems mechanical equipment chemical handling general tools and machinery.
  • General knowledge of the use of equipment used in water treatment or distribution processes such as pumps motors valves filters engines meters generators and compressors.
  • Ability to recognize and use tools and equipment necessary to perform limited repairs to equipment.
  • Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of various types of hand and power tools pick-up trucks tractors and similar vehicles.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one-year hands-on experience in the operation maintenance repair rebuilding and service of mechanical equipment control valves pumps motors tanks and piping systems found in a water plant.
  • Must possess and maintain a drivers license and have minimal driving infractions.
  • Must possess an ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution and/or Treatment certification or the ability to obtain both certifications within the first six months of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate must be able to complete the following physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods (up to 810 hours per day).
  • Navigate uneven rough or sloped terrain in all types of outdoor environments (e.g. construction sites fields roadside).
  • Lift carry and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Handle locating tools flags and spray paint cans frequently throughout the day.
  • Frequently bend squat kneel or crouch to access utility access points or place markings on the ground.
  • Enter confined spaces or work in awkward positions as needed.
  • Use hand-held locating equipment accurately.
  • Write or mark using spray paint or flagging tools with precision.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat cold rain snow etc.).
  • Tolerate potential exposure to dust dirt traffic insects and possibly hazardous materials (with PPE provided).
  • Visual acuity to read site plans maps and underground utility drawings.
  • Adequate hearing to respond to traffic and other job site hazards.
  • Operate a company vehicle safely; maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Frequently get in and out of a vehicle throughout the workday.

WORK CONTEXT

  • Ability to be subject to 24-hour on call variable working hours overtime weekends and holidays. May be required to perform stand-by duties and respond to emergencies.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30am to 4:00 pm.
