About the Genea HREC
The Genea HREC is a constituted committee operating in accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NHMRC 2023). The committee provides independent ethical review of human research conducted within or in collaboration with Genea with a particular focus on assisted reproductive technology human genetics and related clinical and laboratory research.
The Role
As a member of the Genea HREC you will contribute your professional expertise in the care or treatment of people to the ethical review of research proposals. You will be appointed as an individual for your personal knowledge and experience - not as a representative of any organisation or employer.
Membership responsibilities include:
- Attending scheduled HREC meetings (frequency to be advised upon appointment)
- Reviewing research applications protocols and participant information materials prior to meetings
- Contributing to deliberations and decision-making in a collegial and constructive manner
- Completing induction and ongoing continuing education as required
- Maintaining confidentiality and disclosing any conflicts of interest in accordance with the National Statement
- Complying with Geneas HREC terms of reference and relevant governance policies
Members are assured legal protection for any liabilities arising in the course of the bona fide conduct of their duties as reviewers of research.
Qualifications :
Who We Are Looking For
Applicants must hold current qualifications and practising experience as a counsellor or allied health professional. Given the nature of Geneas research experience in fertility counselling reproductive health genetics counselling psychology or nursing is particularly welcomed.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Active engagement in professional care or treatment of people
- An ability to reflect on and analyse ethical issues as they arise in research
- A commitment to the values of research ethics including respect for persons beneficence and justice
- The capacity to engage constructively with complex research proposals
Additional Information :
Appointment Conditions
- Appointments are made through an open and transparent process in accordance with National Statement clause 5.1.40
- The term of appointment will be specified in a formal notice of appointment
- Remuneration arrangements will be detailed in the appointment notice
- Appointments are reviewed at least every three years
