Banking Operations Manager
Job Summary
The newly established Banking Operations team is instrumental in ensuring Wise delivers outstanding service and protects customer money through excellence in banking operations. We act as a crucial bridge between Payment Operations Banking Product and our global banking partners. Our mission is to proactively manage partner-related risks reduce partner costs and support business growth. We elevate partner bank performance and hold them accountable to Wises ambitious goals ensuring our payment ecosystem is cost-effective low-risk and scalable.

As a Banking Operations Manager youll be a pivotal individual contributor driving the operational success and strategic resilience of Wise. Youll own critical operational domains manage key banking partner relationships provide data-driven strategic insights and lead complex initiatives to optimize our global payment ecosystem. Youll thrive in a dynamic environment where you help build clarity structure and a fire-proofed infrastructure for our money movement.
Heres how youll be contributing to the Banking Operations team:
- Cultivate Strategic Partner Relationships: Build and nurture strong collaborative relationships with our global banking partners. Youll act as a primary liaison managing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) driving partner accountability and ensuring the consistent delivery of high service quality.
- Operational Excellence & Incident Root-Cause: Lead efforts to identify opportunities for significant operational change. You will act as a core member of the bank partner incident management team not just resolving disruptions but driving deep-dive post-mortems to hold partners accountable for long-term technical fixes.
- Proactively Manage Partner Risk & KRIs: You will lead the effort to identify define and monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for our banking partners. Youll be responsible for identifying systemic riskswhether technical financial or operationaland implementing mitigation strategies before they impact our customers or our P&L.
- Deliver Data-Driven Insights: Establish define and track key operational KPIs and metrics related to banking partner performance. Youll design reporting frameworks and generate strategic insights that inform critical company decisions and guide our overall banking strategy.
- Drive Financial Transparency & Cost Recovery: You will lead deep-dive fee reconciliation exercises and audit partner invoices against commercial contracts. Youll identify overbilling or hidden costs providing the data-backed evidence needed for our Banking teams to negotiate waivers and cost savings.
- Empower & Connect Internal Teams: Develop best practices implement training programs and share crucial knowledge with Regional Payment Operations teams. Youll help them enhance problem-solving boost operational efficiency and foster stronger cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications :
- You are placed in Budapest and have a right to work here. We wont be able to support with visa nor relocation for this role.
- You have at least 5 years of in-depth knowledge of banking systems payment operations risk management or partner management in a fast-paced environment.
- You speak Risk & Data: You dont just pull datayou are an investigative problem solver. You can spot a trend in a dashboard form a hypothesis about a partners technical failure and build a compelling evidence-based case to drive a fix.
- You are an influencer: You excel at building strong relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders (Banking Product Engineering Treasury). You are a straight-up clear and honest communicator who can persuade others and hold them accountable.
- You thrive in ambiguity: Youre a self-starter who drives to make things happen. Youre comfortable taking charge in difficult situationslike a partner outageand delivering impactful projects that move us from reactive to proactive.
- You have an Audit-Ready mindset: You understand the importance of controls and documentation ensuring that our partner relationships meet global regulatory and internal risk standards.
Nice-to-haves:
- Additional language skills: Fluency in Japanese or Spanish is a significant plus as we manage diverse global banking corridors.
- Experience with formal contract negotiation or managing the commercial/liability aspects of a B2B relationship.
- Experience with SQL or advanced data visualization.
- Experience in Treasury Operations or Financial Risk specifically understanding how bank performance impacts liquidity and safeguarding.
- Experience working in a global cross-functional environment where you had to influence technical and commercial roadmaps.
