Honors courses are offered in all core classes (English History Mathematics and Science); Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available to qualified students in grades 11 and 12.

The Opportunity:

The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seeks a Biology Teacher Grades 9-12 to join our caring and innovative community. This is a 10-month school-year teaching position working with a diverse student population in a comprehensive 9-12 urban school setting. The Biology Teacher reports to and is supervised by the Dean of Curriculum & Program (Science). The Biology teacher in collaboration with colleagues in the CRLS Science Department is responsible for developing refining modifying and implementing courses based upon the Mass. DESE Frameworks for Biology.

The Biology Teacher will set high expectations for all students and utilize scaffolding and differentiation to support students. The teacher will have an appreciation and awareness of the unique developmental needs of young people in this age band. As a professional the teacher will display a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our school community. Moreover they will be fully committed to continuously learning improving reflecting and working together to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with all team members including but not limited to special educators instructional coaches paraprofessionals interventionists and other support personnel.
  • Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Integrate social learning into the classroom and work to foster a safe caring and active learning community.
  • Partner with families and include them in the students learning and development as well as encourage families to further the mission of the school.
  • Build on established partnerships with surrounding community institutions and organizations.
  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will pursue a dignified next step.
  • Teach a curriculum that is designed to prepare students in all aspects of Biology.
  • Work independently and with colleagues to develop a curriculum based on current Mass. DESE Frameworks for Biology.
  • Effectively collaborate with program and department colleagues to ensure high-quality curriculum and instruction for all students.
  • Implement the curriculum to ensure that students receive appropriate education and the opportunities to meet the requirements necessary to further their education and to qualify for employment opportunities in Biology and STEM-related fields.
  • Plan and implement appropriate upgrades to Biology equipment to reflect industry trends/standards.
  • Ensure instruction in and compliance with all health and safety regulations.

Your Skill Set:
As the incoming Biology Teacher you will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:

  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of how to teach the competencies and standards of the Mass. DESE Frameworks for Biology as well as AP Biology.
  • Enthusiasm for technology and its uses in order to recruit and retain students in this program.
  • A minimum of four (4) years experience in teaching biology and/or career and technical education teaching in related fields.
  • Massachusetts DESE License as a Biology Teacher 9-12 required.
  • Bachelors degree required; Masters degree strongly preferred.
