Job Summary
In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager Pharmacy Operations or delegate the Drug Library Pharmacist leads the development optimization standardization and maintenance of smart pump drug libraries within Island Health. This work is carried out in alignment with established policies procedures clinical standards and accreditation requirements. The Drug Library Pharmacist collaborates closely with medication safety teams clinical subject matter experts (SMEs) and pharmacy leadership to develop evidence-based drug library content and submit recommendations for review and approval through established governance processes. The role is responsible for establishing monitoring and refining safety guardrails to reduce medication errors and minimize diversion risks. The pharmacist also conducts continuous quality improvement related to drug library performance and utilization recommends process adjustments to ensure optimal quality assurance and risk management and participates in committees and working groups to support system integration and evolving clinical practice.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
- Licensed by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia; and
- Completion of an Accredited Pharmacy Residency;
- Three (3) years experience as a pharmacist in a hospital setting and at least one (1) year recent related experience in pharmacy-related project work quality improvement or systems implementation; and
- Valid BC Drivers License.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary teams using oral written and computer communication means including giving presentations in a virtual or in-person format.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
