Job Summary

Position: Camp Coordinator (Full Time 12 Month Contract)

Facility: Ripleys Aquarium of Canada Reports to: Manager Education and Conservation

Job Purpose:Reporting to the Manager of Education and Conservation the Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning promotion and delivery of camp programs including but not limited to: Summer Day Camp March Break Camp PA Day programs winter break programs after-school programs weekend programs etc. Additionally the Camp Coordinator is responsible for the facilitation of guest interactive areas in the role of Educator on an as-needed basis. This includes but is not limited to gallery interpretation and facilitation public talks school workshops community outreach events behind the scenes tours safe handling of live animals sleepovers etc. The Camp Coordinator provides exemplary customer services to both children and adults and will promote and encourage a positive attitude towards aquatic life and the environment in all interactions. The Camp Coordinator will be required to complete other duties as assigned.

Please remember that due to the nature of our business we work when others play in an attraction that is open 365 days of the year! You will be expected to be regularly available to work any shift during before or after these hours of operation.

Critical Accountabilities:

  • Provide guests with a fun and memorable experience while providing friendly professional and responsive customer service.
  • Ensure a safe clean secure environment for guests.
  • Assist the Manager with the development of new ideas for marketable and profitable programs for children youth families adults and seniors. Including but not limited to:
    • Conceive and develop new program content
    • review and improve existing camp products and programs
    • write copy for marketing and registration materials
    • registering camp participants including responsible and safe handling of sensitive personal information and financial details
    • Accurate and responsible usage of Point of Sales terminals as per RAC policy
    • Train and support staff delivering programs including developing training materials/manuals
    • providing logistical planning and front-line coordination (includes purchasing of materials and equipment; establishing and adhering to project schedules; serving as point person for program participants and parents; preparing camper lists allergy information financial reports evaluation summaries etc.; resolving problems and referring only those that cannot be resolved directly)
  • Present shows demonstrations school programs overnight programs and experiences
  • Represent Ripleys Aquarium of Canada as required at community events.
  • Ensure that galleries and classrooms are well maintained and operational and provide feedback on guest interaction.
  • Handle and care for live animals as laid out in Ripleys Aquarium of Canada policies.
  • Ensure safe handling of all Aquarium property by guests (including live animals).
  • Set-up maintain and clean program delivery spaces and supply inventory.

Special Skills and Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in biology environmental science education or a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills; proven ability to speak and perform before audiences of varying size and composition.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations in the service industry.
  • Previous experience with developing and delivering summer camp programs and supervising staff in a camp environment
  • Must be capable of working in a dynamic team environment.
  • Proven ability to problem solve.
  • Proficiency with MS programs and computers.
  • Must be able to lift at least 15 kilograms.
  • Must be able to work weekends holidays evenings and overnight.
  • Certified in emergency first aid and CPR

Pay Rate:$44345.60/Annually
