DEFINITION

The employee who serves in this position will produce coordinate and distribute video and film content along with graphic design and website/digital content that advances the reputation and extends the reach of Norfolk Public Schools.

In this role the coordinator will be a highly creative and versatile Visual Storyteller to lead the development of compelling visual and digital content across multiple platforms of Norfolk Public Schools. This role combines multimedia production graphic design website development and strategic communications to strengthen brand presence engage audiences and support organizational goals.

The Visual Storyteller produces agency-quality nonfiction content of varying lengths from short videos to feature-length documentaries fulfilling a range of roles including line production camera work audio production editing writing postproduction graphic content and website content. The employee is also responsible for developing relationships with Norfolk Public Schools staff partner agencies and for project management scheduling and tracking of distributed work.

This role advances the reputation and branding of Norfolk Public Schools by producing content that turns data and research into cinematic stories and by educating the public about this school division.

The ideal candidate is both creative and technical someone who can design visually impactful materials develop and maintain websites and produce high-quality media content including video and photography.

Additionally this employee will support the entire communications team with other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Communications and Community Engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed by each position in the class.)

Design high-quality marketing and communications materials including brochures reports presentations social media graphics advertisements and event materials.

Maintain and evolve brand identity guidelines to ensure visual consistency across all platforms.

Develop creative concepts and visual campaigns aligned with organizational messaging and strategy.

Prepare print-ready files and coordinate with vendors when necessary.

Design develop and maintain the organizations website(s) to ensure optimal functionality performance and user experience.

Update website content regularly and optimize for SEO and accessibility standards.

Implement landing pages forms and interactive features as needed.

Monitor website analytics and recommend improvements based on data insights.

Ensure mobile responsiveness and cross-browser compatibility.

Plan shoot and edit high-quality video and photo content for marketing campaigns events social media and internal communications.

Produce multimedia assets including promotional videos animations and motion graphics.

Manage audio/visual setup for events webinars and recordings when required.

Maintain a digital asset library for media content.

Collaborate with leadership and teams to develop visual storytelling strategies.

Support content creation for digital campaigns newsletters and social media.

Ensure all communications materials align with brand voice and messaging.

Performs other duties and manages special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Extensive knowledge of using professional camera operation to capture photography and videos.

Ability to create graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud Canva or other graphic design tool.

Strong portfolio demonstrating design web and multimedia work.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign Illustrator Photoshop Premiere Pro After Effects).

Experience with website platforms such as WordPress Webflow or similar CMS.

Working knowledge of HTML CSS (JavaScript preferred).

Experience with video editing and production workflows. Understanding of SEO UX/UI principles and digital best practices.

Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines including emergency and critical situations and the ability to calmly communicate with audiences internal and external during critical situations.

Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and present information both orally and in writing.

Ability to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions.

MINIMUM EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelors degree in Graphic Design Communications Web Development Media Production Fine Arts or related field (or equivalent experience). Minimum of three years of professional experience in graphic design website development and media production.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

None. Commercial Drone Pilots license preferred.

Work is performed in an office setting as well as throughout the school division and school community. Work is frequently subject to deadlines and requires attendance at weekend and evening meetings held locally and throughout the state and involves all employee groups and broad-mandated programs. Additionally work requires continuous professional development in the areas of communications media community and public relations.
