Job Summary
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct and indirect care to patients in a behavioral health setting. This role supports the clinical team by assisting with patient monitoring documentation and therapeutic interactions to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of nursing staff.
- Take and record vital signs and monitor patient intake/output.
- Assist with patient admissions and documentation.
- Support physical examinations and collect specimens as needed.
- Transport patients within the facility.
- Orient new patients to unit routines and guidelines.
- Assist patients with daily living activities including hygiene needs.
- Observe and report patient behavior and condition changes to nursing staff.
- Build therapeutic relationships and engage patients in activities.
- Respond to and assist during crisis situations.
- Perform routine safety checks and maintain a secure environment.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Combination schedule:
- 2 shifts: 12-hour days (7:00 AM 7:30 PM)
- 2 shifts: 8-hour days (7:00 AM 3:00 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- Behavioral health / psychiatric care setting
- No block scheduling
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with psychiatric or behavioral health patients (preferred within the last 2 years)
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and patient-centered environment
