Job Title: Student Maintenance Repair Worker
Supervisor: Director of Support Services
Classification: Classified
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Days: As needed
Summary: Assists skilled and semi-skilled workers in several trades in the maintenance construction and repair of buildings equipment and grounds for the Medford School District.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cleans and dusts walls and furniture.
- Sweeps walkways and entrances.
- Washes scrubs and disinfects restrooms.
- Cleans windows door glass and drinking fountains.
- Cleans and polishes metal work such as door panels and hand railing.
- Empties and cleans waste containers
- Assists in moving and rearranging chairs tables desks furniture and other equipment.
- Replaces light bulbs.
- Sweeps scrubs waxes and polishes concrete linoleum tile wood floors and vacuums rugs and carpets in school plant offices and rooms.
- Assists in all aspects of basic facility repair and maintenance.
- Works in support of journeymen in HVAC electrical plumbing boiler carpentry and other trade positions in the District including grounds.
- Maintains and makes repairs to buildings equipment and grounds.
- Preparation and painting as needed.
- Makes repairs and adjustments to plumbing equipment and apparatus in school plants such as replacing broken pipes cleaning plugged drains flushing sewer lines and replacing faucets washers gaskets etc.
- May inspect and maintain ventilating systems to ensure proper heat and airflow and check room temperature service fans compressors pumps oiling greasing packing and cleaning as necessary.
- Maintains competency in all position responsibilities.
- Understands and complies with safety rules policies and regulations.
- Responsible for properly utilizing operating and maintaining all department resources.
- Provides support to other positions as needed.

Education and/or Experience: Medford High School student.
Interpersonal Skills: Willing and able to learn routines and procedures to accomplish tasks in several trade areas. Works well with others. Focuses on solving conflict; maintains confidentiality; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control; remains open to others ideas; Contributes to building a positive team spirit.
Language Skills: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing fluently in English. Preference may be given to applicants fluent in English and Spanish. Ability to effectively present verbal information. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide into all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate amounts proportions percentages area circumference and volume.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to complete instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use e-mail.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to interact appropriately with students parents staff teachers and other community members.
Certificates Licenses Registrations: Certificates as determined by the District.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands for fine manipulation handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must often stand stoop kneel crouch crawl and occasionally sit climb or balance. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and sometimes more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision the ability to adjust focus and depth perception. Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate hand and power tools.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to vibration with the use of machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally high. While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Occasionally the employee must work in high precarious places and around moving parts.
