Director of Lowell Teacher Academy
EFFECTIVE DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: 2026-2027 School Year
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the administration and coordination of the Lowell Teacher Academy including induction and mentoring courses.
- Organize and facilitate two-day New Teacher Orientation in August.
- Organize and facilitate one-day New Paraprofessional Orientation to be held over the summer vacation period.
- Organize and facilitate LTA New Teacher/Mentor Celebration in May.
- Participate in meetings with Middlesex Community College and LTA in managing Pathways to Professional Development venture i.e. offering associates degree to LPSD employees.
- Develops a strategic plan to mentor teachers on track for licensure (Emergency Provisional Initial and/or Professional) license extension advancement and/or renewal.
- Ensures clear and effective communication to teachers and administrators regarding the induction and mentoring programs and needs of new teachers.
- Conduct a Mentor Seminar once a month developing themes such as culturally responsive pedagogy student engagement etc.
- Prepare and teach the LTA Mentor Course:Mentoring in a Community of Learners.
- Organize and facilitate meetings with course instructors concerning FSU and LTA policies and expectations.
- Provide surveys to instructors to administer to their students. Collect and analyze survey data responses and provide feedback to instructors.
- Organize and monitor a schedule for course offerings per calendar school year.
- Coordinate registration of courses with instructors through FSU.
- Visit schools to meet with administrators mentors mentees concerning different aspects of the LTA.
- Manage Induction Program assistants to ensure mentees are meeting DESE program requirements.
- Prepare requests for stipends for mentors to be paid in December and May.
- Prepare requests for Awards for qualifying mentees to be paid in December.
- Prepare requests for stipends for workshop presenters; course instructors; coordinators.
- Provide resources to mentors mentees and coordinators.
- Plan and organize meetings as necessary in order to support the needs of the LTA.
- Support all program needs for the LTA.
- Other duties as assigned by the superintendent/senior leadership.
Qualifications:
- A Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Holds a valid/active Professional license in the Commonwealth of MA.
- At least five years of successful teaching experience in Lowell.
- Five years or more of mentoring experience in Lowell is preferred.
- Experience leading meetings workshops and/or courses for teachers.
- Skilled in teaching adult learners.
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of being a life-long learner with enthusiasm and passion for learning and teaching.
- Skilled in the use of computers and knowledgeable in the application of educational technologies.
- Flexible. Ability to adapt to fluctuating fluid situations.
Salary: This is a Unit A position with an annual stipend of $13575 (retirement eligible)
