JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The part-time program coordinator provides essential support with the planning and execution of communications and events for parents and families in the Office of Parent and Family Engagement. It is preferred that candidates have some experience in planning and implementing large-scale events or programs and strong written and verbal communication skills. This position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail with the ability to multitask and independently resolve problems.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop effective office communication strategies

  • Provide accurate information about Penn States services for students and family members

  • Assist in planning and executing Family Weekend programming along with staff students and volunteers

  • Work with Parents Council members volunteers student leaders and staff

  • Manage communications including a parent/family portal newsletter and social media

  • Participate in departmental meetings and strategic planning

  • Lead assessment efforts for events

  • Support student volunteer group

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Requires a bachelors degree preferably in communications hospitality or education

  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively

  • Experience planning large-scale events

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Desire to engage and support parents families and supporters of all students

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Adobe Creative Suite Canva and social media platforms

Work Location:

  • Penn State University Park

  • This is an in-person position

Schedule Requirements:

  • This is a part-time position working 20 hours/week during a typical week; hours may increase during peak periods and special events.

  • Some weekend and evening hours will be required including Family Weekend student move-in and other on-campus events as needed.

Compensation:

  • $22.00/hour
